I was a fan as a really young kid. Maybe 2-8 so I don't really remember that much but I had hundreds and hundreds of dollars worth of the toys and the weekends would be spent building the tracks from out of my bed room and all around the house.
I nostalgia'd hard at the original intro video someone posted.

I remember when Henry got a new coat of paint, and it started raining, so he wouldn't leave the tunnel.
So the Fat Controller bricked him up in that tunnel. Left him there. After a few days, Henry was in bad shape. Cobwebs and everything had built up.
But then Gordon suffered some kind of technical glitch. Couldn't pull the Express. No other engine was strong enough to do it. Except Henry of course.
So the Fat Controller said "Henry, you gotta do this. It's all up to you now brotha". Henry agreed, and he pulled the shit of out that Express and saved the day.
The end.

I remember the episode where James got stung by a bee always scared the piss out of me, and I would literally have to leave the room when he got stung.

I watched a shit ton of PBS as a little kid (really liked Sesame Street and was obsessed with Mr. Rogers Neighborhood). I remember watching Shining Time Station, but it never really stuck with me like other PBS fair. I own a copy George Carlin's posthumous autobiography "Final Words" he mentions his time as Mr. Conductor. My favorite three things Carlin said about his time on the show:
1. Carlin replacing Ringo Starr makes him "the anti-Pete Best".
2. He talked about kids who would be awestruck running into Mr. Conductor out of uniform and the size of an average fully-grown adult. So he would explain it to them by gently saying "I'm not on the Island of Sodor, I'm not working today. But I am Mr. Conductor." I just love that Carlin went that route instead of just being all "F*** you kid! I'm George Carlin, a stand up comedian and an actor. Mr. Conductor is just a character I play in exchange for a f***ing paycheck!" It kind of shows more depth to George Carlin as a human that he'd go that far not to disillusion the little ones.
3. Him mentioning that in the time his tenure as Mr. Conductor ended, a lot of his little fans have grown up and started attending his stand up gigs to "complete their education".

Not Thomas per say. But I live in Halifax where we have this. You can pay money and go on tours of the harbor in this.

There was an episode called "Ghost Train" which I still find legitimately scary. Oh man, that episode was piss-ass scary. Also, there have been many series using Trainz Simulator on YouTube that I've found capture the old Railway Series books atmosphere quite well. Also, while there are very few that capture the old model series well, there's one variation that I've found to be superb. It's called The British Railway Stories, on the YouTube page of simierski. It only lasted 18 episodes, but it captured the old Railway Series to a T, and even made itself different as well. Here's the 18th episode, The Last Run. I will put it in spoilers, not only because it shows the fate of the characters, but it's also tugs on the heartstrings very hard. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}

My son is autistic and loves Thomas in any format. I watch it with him. I always enjoyed the model version with Carlin as narrator or even Ringo. I don't mind the CGI cause my son doesn't. Thank you for posting this link. Hats off to Auburn University for their research into why autistic children love Thomas so much. My speculation is the order of everything on the show. It is very linear and structured. The colors make the engines distinct but are all still familiar bc they look the same except for some minor things. My son used to go into trance like states lining up dozens of engines in separate lines. We started using this as a way to do other early childhood intervention tactics and it began to chip away at stimming fits and behaviors. He hasn't done that particular gimmick in over a yr and a half. Thank you Thomas i wonder if it would have helped my daughter while she was growing up. She is on the mild end of the autism spectrum but it might have been useful. Of course, now that she is 12 I won't get her to watch the show so this information is too late for me.

I watched the episode recently where Daisy refused to pull the milk wagon, and quite frankly, I agree with her.
Daisy was way too pretty to waste her time with that.
Percy or Toby could have done those shitty jobs. I can't say I appreciated her dissing Annie and Clarabel though.

I had no idea this programme was ever anything but the Ringo Starr version I watched when I was very young. I think I'll pretend it's not. Used to be my favourite video tape.

And Percy and Toby were like, "Bullshit!" And then Thomas tried it the next morning, forgetting one simple thing: He can't stop himself. And then he joined the Stationmaster for Breakfast, albeit uninvited, which pissed off the Stationmaster's old lady.

For one, sometimes, runaway trains are explained by kids fiddling with the controls or leaving the break off by mistake. But some of them supposedly move on their own... then can't stop on their own? Well, that instance, he thought he was able to move on his own, but it was really due to a careless cleaner meddling with his controls.

I adored this show as a kid. Even as an adult in the mornings before work, sometimes this show came on whilst I ate breakfast and I was still entertained by it. I fondly remember the episode where Henry had to pull the flying kipper and the trucks shunted him faster down the hill so he crashed. Also that episode where the trucks decided to be mischievous and not move leading to one of them getting ripped in half. And Diesel's debut where the trucks kept singing that really catchy song about him to piss him off. Those trucks were a right bunch of bastards Diesel was my favourite though, I always liked how Ringo used the word "oiled" to describe him talking

I remember on crazy epiosde where one of the trains crahsed into a barbershop and there was foam and all kinds of wood bits everywhere. Ah, that would be the episode "A Close Shave." And that engine that crashed into the barbershop was Duck, or as he's known on the Great Western Railway, The Engine Formerly Known as Montague. No, I'm serious. His real name is Montague. I am not shitting you. Look it up.

Ah, now we start entering the obscurities of Thomas the Tank Engine. I don't think anyone really casually remembers Duck, Donald, Douglas, Boco, Bill or Ben. And don't even try and bring up those trains on the narrow gauge track. I remember Bill and Ben, they were 2 of my favourites. Can't remember Boco at all, vaguely remember Donald and Douglas as both being Scottish trains. If I remember right one of them was very grumpy.
