A good one is where Thomas needs some water, so they stop halfway along a bridge. Thomas' driver gets an old bucket on a rope and lowers it down into the river below and scoops up some water. Once they've filled the tanks, they set off again, but Thomas starts having some trouble. They find out that the bucket brought up some fishes, and now the fishes are swimming around Thomas' tanks. So they have to fish the damn things out of him using rods! Eventually, they get the fishes out, put them back in the river, and all is well.

Ah, that would be the episode "A Close Shave." And that engine that crashed into the barbershop was Duck, or as he's known on the Great Western Railway, The Engine Formerly Known as Montague. No, I'm serious. His real name is Montague. I am not shitting you. Look it up. Ah, now we start entering the obscurities of Thomas the Tank Engine. I don't think anyone really casually remembers Duck, Donald, Douglas, Boco, Bill or Ben. And don't even try and bring up those trains on the narrow gauge track. What? You mean Skarloey, Rheneas, Sir Handel (Falcon), Peter Sam (Stuart), Rusty, Duncan, Ivo Hugh, and Duke?

I remember the Fat Controller stuffing his fat face full of them.

Some more memories...
- James getting tar dumped all over him. - Gordon rolling into a ditch. - The evil trucks pushing trains to their doom, laughing while they do it. - Thomas refusing to carry a snowplough - Toby's debut, and Thomas giving him shit for being a tram engine
And the greatest episode of them all, Thomas beating Bertie the Bus in their legendary race.

Gordon's always cross. He's cross when he was teased by Thomas, When he had to fetch his own coaches, When he was too fat and made the turntable stick, When he had to pull a special of trucks, When everyone was talking about City of Truro, When he was called a Galloping Sausage, When he plowed his head through the station wall, When Henry got a new shape, When his whistle was stuck wide open, When he burst his safety valve, When he had to pull a goods train and got stuck on the hill, When he had to go on the branchline, When.....well, you kinda get the picture.

Scariest episode for me as a kid was Toby's Tightrope. Underrated story with no main engines anywhere but still tense.

Does anyone remember hearing about those "memory railways" where they dress up a steam engine like Thomas, get some fat bald guy to be Sir Topham Hatt, and have tables of Thomas toys everywhere? That sounded cool. I went to one of those when I was a kid at York Railway Museum. They'd rigged the train dressed up as Thomas so it could talk and answer questions which I found to be the greatest thing ever.

One of the most sinister episodes was when either James or Donald or Douglas crushed a brake van, and the brake van's face was just lying there on the tracks.
But he was STILL alive!!!

This thread has inspired me to check out Thomas again for nostalgia's sake. I wish I hadn't because I sadly saw hat it's become Why is this show in CGI now ? I also hate that many of the older, classic episodes now have very bad American dubbing rather than the lovely tones of Ringo Starr and Michael Angelis.

The trucks seem to get the brunt of the abuse on the show. But yeah, Douglas crushing the brake van was disturbing.
