Once again I am inquiring about ROH dvds. I'm about to start really beefing up my wrestling DVDs collection with these, and I don't want to make any poor choices. Some people said not to purchase anything before '05, but I've been looking and the cards on a lot of the shows don't look bad at all.
Help me out, ROH fanatics.

Well, you could always get shows from before '05, but that's up to you. Just check the match listings/get comments from others about the shows you're interested in. Could always, if you have the cash and/or patience, start your ROH collection from May 7th, 2005's Manhattan Mayhem show and work yourself up.

screw roh...j/k
but you can get the same roh guys wrestling the same matches, along with better people like Sterling James keenan (before ROH debut) and Shirley Doe for cheaper at IWCwrestling.com
IWC owns ROH

I'll be the first to say it. Milestone Series. I just recently started buying ROH DVDs, and I've developed a system of during buy 3, get 1 free. I buy three newer ROH DVDs, and then one older one. It helps keep me up to date with ROH, but also get a little background.

Yeah, if there is any place to start, the Milestone series would be the place to do it. That's basicall ROH in a nut shell right there.
Pre-2005 is pretty good too, just different 'breed' so to say. Pre-2005 is the reign of Joe pretty much.

That's the great thing I love about ROH. If you pop in a DVD from 02, 03, 04, 05, or 06 each of them have very noticable differences. Whether it's the atmosphere, who's on top, or who the main guys are.
As a couple already said, the milestone series is the best of the best as far as ROH goes. But there are some great pre-2005 shows that I've see.
You can't go wrong with the first Death Before Dishonor in 2003. Joe vs Punk II is from 2004. Final Battle 2004.
Granted I'll be the first to say thatmy favorite version of ROH has been 2005-current but you'd be missing out to never see the older stuff. It's good.

My favorite 'era' of ROH was World Title Classic (Joe/Punk I) in 2004 till Redemption in 2005. Then of course the Milestone Series.

If I were you I'd get shows like Joe vs Kobashi and Joe vs Punk 2. Then move onto the milestone series to get into it storyline wise.

well, lets look at the past years of ROH and see if there is stuff to watch
2002: Low Ki/Christopher Daniels feud, start of the Prophecy, rise of Paul London, start of the Homicide/Steve Corino feud, Amazing Red, and the Christopher Street Connection (sorry, i just find them funny)
2003: CM Punk/Raven feud, The Prophecy vs The Group, rise of The Briscoes, Homicide/Steve Corino feud continues including Corino lossing the hearing in his left and a barbed-wire match, Samoe Joe's reign begins, Second City Saints
2004: Pure Championship is introduced, Joe vs Punk trilogy, Generation Next, Jushin "Thunder" Liger wrestles, Homicide and Low Ki both turn heel/The Rottweilers, Mick Foley's "Hardcore" vs Ricky Steamboats' "Pure Wrestling"

In my opinion, the best ROH so far (looking back in hindsight, not including Dragon's reign of supremacy because I want to see how it holds up a year or so later) has been mid-2004 to mid-2005. Joe vs Punk, Austin Aries title reign, Punk's title reign, Hillbilly JeHUSS, etc. I loved it.
