It feels like the idea was that he wasn't badass in this game yet, but was trying to act like he was. This was an origin setting up a new series. One that is likely dead in the water now. That's a damn shame to me. I know Capcom considered it a failure, but I think it did pretty well, frankly. I'd love to see a sequel to this game.

I am also going to agree with what Dude! said as well with one major difference. Since when exactly was Capcom shitting on the fans when the fans themselves were way over their heads, people forgot what the word "reboot" meant, that was why I gave it a chance and I enjoyed every bit of it. I didn't forget what reboot meant. It's just that they took out the aspects of the series I enjoyed so I have zero interest in the new game. You hear a lot about how old fans whine too much about this game, but seriously--this game is good, but we aren't exactly under an obligation to like it. We were fans of the series for a very clear reason, and once that reason went out of the window and the new game just used the same name as the old one...well, I really don't see a reason to force myself to enjoy it. Especially since MGRising came out the same week and was way better in every way. The closest comparison I can think of is if they rebooted Pokemon and took out efforts, ivs, and competitive play altogether, all while changing the story to a ridiculous tone where the insane writing staff claimed to be "Shakespearean." Would it be surprising if the people who like to play Pokemon competitively went "...I'm sorry even if that's a good game, that's not what I'm here for" and didn't like the game? I mean, if you liked the Pokemon games but didn't care for the competitive stuff, it would be pretty easy to enjoy the reboot. But it would also pretty easy to see why the people who did like those things were kind of disappointed about their removal, which was what made the series for them.

I have been a huge fan of the series since the first game. But when 4 hit, it felt stale. 3 was stellar, and following that is tough. I think the reboot was a good idea because if you look at God of War, it hasn't changed or evolved and has gotten so stale at this point. Still great games, but it needs a shot in the arm. DMC did that before it got as bad as it could have. I am ok with that. It doesn't mean they can't go back at some point.
