Before we go any further, let me state that I have been a big fan of mr. Bryan Danielson for about a decade now, ever since his indy days. This is not a knock on him.
I would just enjoy reading everybody's thoughts on why the most over person in the company drew so low buyrates when he was given the chance to headline pay per views.
Is it because the YES chant is over, but not in a way that would make people pay money? Are Daniel Bryan fans cheap?
I don't remember an era before where the crowd reactions and the actual numbers are polar opposites. Though, this was going on with Punk, as well. He was mega over in the arenas, but no one paid money to see him.
What gives?

He draws crowds. Attendance has been pretty damn good for RAW in the past year.
Not really sure what to make of ratings, but low buy rates I don't really attribute to anyone as less and less people are actually paying for the PPVs and are watching illegal streams of it online.

The same reason Stone Cold, The Rock and John Cena didn't draw initially; it takes time.

Because this belongs in the "All purpose Daniel Bryan booking" thread.
...oh wait...I didn't answer your question.

Well, this isn't really about Bryan's booking, but rather is inability to make money for the company.

What opportunity has the guy had as 'THE top guy'?
Until then, it's moot. Moot anyway, since only Cena really draws, and once the Network starts up none of that will matter anyway really.

Here's how you sell a product. You place it in front of the customer and intrigue them - give them some reason to want to know more.
Do they show interest? Yes. Great! Support their interest. Give them more reasons to like your product, and nurture their growth along the path to buying. Find out what they want. Do what you can to meet those needs.
Then, stick with it. If they're showing interest but not buying, figure out what they need to take that last step. Are they holding off because they're, as someone said, cheap? Are they holding off because they don't trust you and think you're going to pull a bait-and-switch? (Have you sold them a defective product in the past... perhaps, for example, told them they were going to get a great match while actually providing an 18-second squash?) Are you just not offering them the thing they want (DB with a title reign of some importance and length)?
Figure out the problem, then correct it.
Business isn't rocket science... it's really just about identifying your consumer's needs and convincing them that you're going to meet those needs and exceed their expectations. So far, WWE's shown an interested consumer that they're lukewarm on the product that the consumer wants to buy... they're not really sure they're going to build the features into it that the customer has been asking for (aforementioned title reign, significant and meaningful stories), and since they've already shown that they're not above misleading the customer (the aforementioned 18-second squash), anyone investing their pay per view dollars in Bryan right now is buying at their own (considerable) risk. They may end up with a different product entirely than the one they were hoping to purchase.
Consistency needs to be there in order to get people to part with their money, and WWE has demonstrated basically the opposite of that with Bryan.

I think if he was pushed like a star people would start buying tickets to see him like he's a star. Why would I buy tickets to see my favorite wrestler if I know he's going to be misused?
If they would invest in him like they did Cena, odds are that he'd be a decent draw.
Maybe not, of course--but they need to take a chance.

Bryan Danielson is in a handicap when it comes to being a draw. Internet piracy makes it much easier to watch the PPV's, which I doubt WWE takes into account, as well as nobody wanting to pay $50 for a terribly booked show (not to mention having the same main event 2-3 pay per views in a row). He does draw, crowds go crazy for him and his merch sells, but as long as he has these handicaps that WWE officials seems to be blind about, he won't get a fair chance. Hopefully it all changes with the WWE Network when they're more worried about selling subscriptions rather than illogical ratings from cable TV and easily pirated PPV sales

Because individual wrestlers don't draw in the TV era of wrestling, with the POSSIBLE exception of Hulk Hogan. It's a stupid idea.
The WWE draws (or doesn't).

Hmm, just signed up, only 3 posts, all of which criticising the most popular wrestler on the forum.... I think that's an unfair assumption. Not everybody who criticizes Daniel Bryan is a troll. Especially when, out of his three posts, only two of them mention him. Maybe we should give new members a chance before we jump on them and attack them for having differing opinions, eh? We are not a hive mind.
