Yeah seriously. There's a bunch of guys down there that need some work. What plays for a small dedicated crowd that's pretty much the same every week doesn't necessarily work for bigger, more varied crowds on a week to week basis. I don't often agree with you but I 100% agree with this. I think they either need to handle it like FCW where they assumed nobody watched it or feature like one NXT match a week on Raw to increase familiarity with that product. Well if the network does well enough that should help at least some.

I don't think it's just the town. That gimmick's not going to work on the main roster at all. That's my opinion as well. Emma's NXT thing is the bottom of the list of NXT things that would work on the main roster.

NXT doesn't translate well to RAW. Been saying it for ages. The smarky Full Sail crowd tend to embrace everyone, whereas the average RAW crowd will pop for a few guys at most. What's offbeat and whimiscal in NXT is lost on the RAW audience. Plus it doesn't help that NXT is relatively obscure. When they reach RAW, the audience tends to be baffled and bewildered more than impressed.

Which is why a lot of fan interaction stuff that works on the independent scene doesn't work in the WWE. (This was not meant to be a knock on the indys.)

That awkward moment when watching Emma bombing in her official debut.
The material for that skit was not that good and Omaha didn't help it out either. Santino barely got a response from the crowd and he's very good at getting a pop. Sometimes a gimmick that works in developmental doesn't translate to the masses who never seen it before. Emma can rebound from this but don't expect her to get over any time soon.

I guess I'm cynical but I think anyone likely to watch NXT streaming over the paid WWE Network is likely to already watch NXT streamed free over Hulu. Just kind of sounds like "Sure no one watched Firefly on Fox but they're all gonna come pay to see Serenity at the movie theater".

It's all good, she still got a better pop than Del Rio
That said, she's awful and should be Kizarny'd back to the indies.

*sigh* She had the whole underdog thing going on NXT and that was largely based on her entrance and spaced out ways, as a result just managing to get in the ring successfully got a big cheer. Somehow despite consistently strong booking she's kept that underdog appeal. Now they've debuted her as winner from the start, with commentators doing their stupid laugh and the gimmick being reduced to the dance. It's not something that inherently can't translate to the main audience, it's that they use a crap translator that doesn't understand the nuances of what they're translating.
And to make matters worse they're blown the dance off with Summer when their NXT version of that segment was brilliant due to the fact the characters were well established and they had a bit more time. They'll probably waste Santino/Emma vs Fandango/Summer next week too even though that was the best comedy match of last year.

She got a small pop when she got into the ring, but I think the WWE made a mistake in thinking that the live crowd knows much about what's going on in NXT. I couldn't help but laugh as when Emma started dancing the audience had looks of pure confusion. I think it's a fair assumption for WWE to make. NXT is a lot more readily accessible and connected to WWE canon than any other developmental fed has ever been. It's presented as part of the WWE as opposed to just being some high scale, but obscure indy promotion like FCW was.

Eh, it's Omaha. They think Kevin Bacon is the villain in Footloose. that and they're probably still upset that their spokesperson Peyton manning's Broncos lost the super bowl

What's offbeat and whimiscal in NXT is lost on the RAW audience. Plus it doesn't help that NXT is relatively obscure. When they reach RAW, the audience tends to be baffled and bewildered more than impressed. That, and a lot of the issues facing NXT call-ups, can be directly blamed on WWE. They make no effort to push NXT as a thing you should care about, but given the amount of success the NXT graduates have had in WWE in the last year, they should be gung-ho about their farm system producing such stellar talent. If they gave the WWE Universe a reason to care about NXT, then maybe Big E Langston is viewed as something more than "that guy who has the Intercontinental Championship", because in NXT. Maybe Summer Rae is viewed as more than just a dimwitted blonde dancer, but rather as a solid wrestler whose victories over Natalya shouldn't be considered upsets. Maybe Xavier Woods is given more than one win before creative completely gives up on him and has him floating around the vast nothingness that is the lower mid-card. If WWE identified NXT as a thing its fans should watch and care about, then Emma's debut is played as a bigger deal, instead of "Look at this girl we pulled out of the crowd to dance with Santino". In NXT, she's among the top women's wrestlers on the show, but since the fans haven't been given a reason to know or care about that, she's just another interchangeable dancer on Raw. Perhaps that will change with the Network. But would it really behoove them to say, "NXT is available for free on Hulu."?
