My family has an LG 52" Plasma screen TV from either 2011 or 2012.... I forget. Anyway, they seem convinced that you cannot play video games on a Plasma without it ruining the TV.... even though there is a picture mode marked "Gaming". So is it possible to play my PS3 on it without it ruining the TV after a couple hours of use?

It is possible. Burn-in is a risk that comes with plasma tvs.

It's risky. It's not really good for them, that's for sure. Nothing is really good for plasma TVs, I think they're getting better, but yeah, it doesn't take long to ruin one with burn-in.

Considering that the TV is relatively new, it shouldn't be as big as an issue as it was back when Plasma HDTV's were first being marketed in the early 2000's. However, as mentioned earlier, you do still need to be a bit cautious because burn-in is still a somewhat common thing with Plasma TVs.

Thanks for the responses guys, I'm not going to take the chance on it and just get a new one for myself hopefully in a couple weeks when I get my tax return.

I got a 42 inch Samsung Plasma back in 2003.Play video games on it all the time and it never caused any issues.Just don't leave it paused for long periods of time and you are good.

Plasma is the best type of TV for games. Older tvs had burn in issues which you avoid by turning the damn tv off and not leaving a static image on it. My tv has burn it, but you can only see it when the screen is fully black.
I never want a tv other than plasma for games unless stuff progresses further.
