I think that MVP is going to help TNA out a lot actually.

Honestly, I hope they really do take the reigns and make some changes in TNA.
Not "jeff hardy as willow" kind of changes, but more hilarious Chris Sabin being hilarious kind of changes.

I assume that Abyss is also a locker room leader. He's been with TNA since their first PPV in June 2002 (as Prince Justice)

Joe knows that times are tough but he wanted to make things clear for the rest of the roster.
He gets first crack at catering. The others can have the scraps.

MVP apparently was fairly popular with the locker room till news that he attacked Dixie with a screwdriver came out.
Now's he's extraordinarily popular.

I'm shocked that Rockstar Spud isn't being a lockeroom leader.

I'm shocked that Rockstar Spud isn't being a lockeroom leader. That's because everyone is too busy stuffing him into a locker to listen to him.

Even if they are "locker room leaders", they are not really going to have positive influence on the whole show, but only on those they bond with.
I can not praise this form of politics after seeing what it did to WWE and WCW back in the 90's.
Leave the pushes and focus to the best talent you got, not by checking the brownness of their noses.

Not sure that's how it'd work; for starters, guys tend to be a bit more aware of those things today, and "locker room leader" doesn't translate to "clique leader", necessarily. WCW gave too many guys creative control clauses and deals that made it worth people's while to side with </insert powerful figure here> backstage, and in WWE guys like Trips had an in with the front office, anyway; wouldn't be the same situation in TNA. For example, AJ Styles was cited as a guy who was usually a locker room leader in TNA, but that didn't seem to help all of his friends out very often. Samoa Joe was a key locker room leader in ROH during his tenure there, doubt it'd have that much of an effect on who gets pushed or not.

MVP, just from what I've seen, seems like the kind of guy that I'd want helping guide the young talent. I like this development.

The people you mentioned do not strike me as being very social. They come across as two men that would rather spend time improving their craft. It does depend who the leader is for sure and I did not clarify it that well in my last post. Perhaps MVP is not that sort of guy who will use his influence to mess people up, but not everybody has the discipline of Samoa Joe and AJ Styles. I doubt Shawn Michaels wanted to be the type of person he became, but being the top guy raises a lot of fears about losing the spot for someone and sometimes makes them act in a deplorable behavior.
