Funk beating up Phillips has been removed from the "Villains" program and "Grand Slams," but that is it. Otherwise, Phillips is all over these unedited. He's even been referenced by name.

There's a spectrum show on the network that's about 5 minutes shorter than the Classics on Demand versions and that's because they removed as much of Phillips as they could, but he's still on it. They would edit in crowd shots from earlier in the show on the Network version when on the COD version you could see Phillips. It could be that they have a Chris Benoit type rule on Phillips that Classics on Demand later adapted. At first every instance of Benoit was edited out but they later settled on a rule where he'd stay in if he was in the background but all of his interviews and matches were removed. To think that Phillips being removed here has nothing to do with his past is laughable.

I'm surprised they removed the song "Carnival" from the outro of these videos. Even though it's a song you can buy for 99 cents on iTunes they never edited it out of "The Big Event" and they never edited out of the Classics on Demand versions of these shows.

I just don't understand why they even bother cutting him from one show if they're going to leave another show with him in it completely unedited.

On a side note, I'm surprised they kept in the Thesz/Rikidozan footage in the opening montage.

Wow on Most Embarrassing Moments I was surprised they edited the music in the opening montage.

Supertape also has the music edited on the opening montage. I'm surprised about all this. I always thought WWE used their own in house music for these productions. The intro song to the 80's Coliseum Video Montage is legendary in my opinion. Is that an actual song or is that in house WWE music?

Any of the intro music they're cutting on these is outside music, nothing that Jim Johnston or Jimmy Hart did. For some reason, some of this music is only getting cut during the intro and end. I watched one show today where the intro music was dubbed over at the start but not when it was played for a couple minutes during a segment. The original music in the Supertape intro is actually a piece that World Class used for their show's intro in 1987 for a few months before switching back to their famous kettle drum theme. For whatever reason, it's not edited from the World Class episodes, but it is on Supertape.

Most of the 80's videos say "Presented in the most complete form possible due to technical difficulties". I wonder if that's a nice way of saying "We've removed as much Mel Phillips footage as we can get away with"

Who is Mel Philips and why is he getting removed? Phillips worked for WWE for over a decade as a ring announcer. When he was there, WWE would often use teenage boys to put up and take down the rings, and he was in charge of them. Some of them claimed that Phillips would try to touch and massage their feet because of his well known foot fetish (which Gorilla Monsoon even joked about on TV once). He was fired in 1992 after one of them went public with his story. WWE is very inconsistent with their editing of him as there are plenty of shows that still have him in them.

It wasn't a problem before, but apparently one of his victims said they were traumatized seeing him a rerun. This is why they had an alternate take on...something, can't remember but it was a DVD. So you couldn't see him. If you have Unreleased, notice they keep his voice but cut to crowd shots.

On DVDs the last few years, they make a point to not show him but usually keep his voice (though on the 2014 Savage set, they didn't even let you hear him). On the Network, he might be completely removed from one show, partially removed from the next, or they don't edit anything.

I don't know that I believe that story about the victim being traumatized by the way. I never heard a credible source report it and as big of a fan as I am, I probably would want to get as far away from the product as possible if Mel Phillips had molested me as a child.

They showed the hard camera angle for Hogan/Andre so you couldnt see him in that shot (for some reason, I thought that Bob Uecker was the announcer for that match, but I guess I was wrong).

Uecker was the ring announcer for Hogan/Andre. Phillips was at the timekeeper's table and could be seen when Mary Hart was shown ringing the bell. I don't know if they made that "from the hard camera only" choice because of Phillips, but in the Savage/Steamboat match, Savage took the bell from him right on camera.

Do they use the hard camera for the network version of Wrestlemania 3 so Phillips isn't shown?

Do they use the hard camera for the network version of Wrestlemania 3 so Phillips isn't shown? Not for the whole match, but the shot of Mary Hart ringing the bell with Phillips next to her is replaced with a different angle. On the 1991 Royal Albert Hall show, he's not edited at all. They even show a close up of him introducing Alfred Hayes.
