I mean he was the focus of NXT season 1. The whole show was pretty much build around him and his story of coming from the indies and having to adapt to the WWE and his relationship with The Miz who was presented as his polar opposite.
I think the losing streak was done because they knew it would get people talking and create his "underdog" persona that is doing great business right now. Its not as if he was made to look that weak really. In his first ever match he fought the champion at the time (Jericho) and came out looking really good.
As for Cole "burying" him at every available opportunity well he was playing a heel at the time. Cole wouldn't shut up about Bryan which if any thing gave him a great rub.
Then when he got Fired and came back it was a surprise entrant in a main event amongst a team consisting of some of the most important guys on the roster.
I think WWE have always known what Bryan could become and how to book him. and it's paid off. That's not to say they haven't made a few mistakes, but I think Bryan is the mixture of good booking and a few lucky mistakes.

I'd agree with some of these points, but not the whole thing.
Like, somebody go ahead and tell me if I'm wrong, but as I recall it Cole hating on Daniel Bryan was what actually turned him heel. He just randomly started bashing him on NXT and then slowly turned it toward all faces that weren't John Cena.
But the rest of that, I would agree with.

Well, they wanted to sign Bryan years before he debuted. The idea that Triple H wants to bury Bryan is also a bit odd, considering his best friend trained him.

Well, they wanted to sign Bryan years before he debuted. I think they went as far as to sign him to a developmental deal around the time he worked with Cena on Heat just before he started with ROH.

We'll see April 6, at about 10:47 p.m. Either some of you in the IWC will be eating crow, or you will be completely justified. Either way, there will be created a vacuous hole of matter and anti-matter that can only be produced by God or possibly a super-collider.

The entire first episode of NXT was based around him. Yes, they knew.

Triple H has this amazing skill where he can put someone over then Bury them enough to remove all the overness he gave them the night before and then some in a single promo.

They've always liked him, but I doubt they thought that he would get as over as he has. I mean, the guy only went to developmental because he requested it (and even then, he was only there for about a month) - they clearly thought he would be great. But, I don't think they thought he would become the most over guy in the past decade. He was probably expected to be more like Edge rather than Austin.

Yes. Bryan has been pushed as a big deal from day 1.
Even from when he appeared on NXT and was endlessly losing, he was the focus of the show. I mean his first match was him wrestling then WWE champ Jericho in a match that got a good amount of time. His losing was actually really well done in hindsight. They knew he didn't need to win at all on that show, everyone else was the one that needed to win.
I also loved him being paired with the Miz. Miz deserves a lot of credit for helping Bryan get over early on. Some of Miz's best mic work was with or involving Bryan, both as his 'mentor' and in their later feud.

Bryan's been heavily featured and pushed for a while and I personally believe that they would have eventually put him in a great spot but beyond that it depends. Like said, they'd see him as an Edge or a Jericho, not an Austin, Rock, Cena or even a Bret, Shawn and Taker.

They've always liked him (dude has amazing work ethic, doesn't drink or do drugs, and doesn't really get injured - what's not to like in an employee?) but I think they saw him as more of a upper midcard / lower main event guy, at least for a while.
You're right that NXT for a while was basically "The Daniel Bryan show - starring some other guys". We'll never know how the Nexus was originally booked with Bryan as a member, but I assume they had him picked out to go face early and tackle Miz for the US title (which he did really quickly anyway).
I think it finally clicked during Team Hell No. Daniel Bryan and Kane were getting better reactions than 90% of the roster and were having amazing matches pretty much every single night. Then they started getting MORE popular, to the point where they just kind of naturally turned face and starting battling heels. From then on? They've realized they have someone who's immune to bad booking and are going to milk his big moment for all it's worth.

"HI." That doesn't guarantee anything though, Brian Kendrick was also trained by HBK and look where he ended up

"HI." That doesn't guarantee anything though, Brian Kendrick was also trained by HBK and look where he ended up To be fair i love Kendrick guy had alot of pros Zeke as a bodyguard, entrance music that might be my favorite theme ever and a sweet jacket. He was good in the ring a bit of high flyer an mat wrestler an was decent on the mic. The cons were big tho he looked like he lacked passion an was a bit of a goof. Looked like he would rather mess around than focus on improving.

They knew Bryan was well known from the Indies, and used Jericho to introduce him to the WWE fans unfamiliar with his indy work. They then used Bryan to put the rest of the Nexus over, (look at how he was on a losing streak on NXT, yet he was the one that got the win in the NXT v Raw match), because the Nexus was the plan for the end of NXT season 1 from day one. Look how they turned each face heel when they were eliminated, including Bryan's rant when he tells you to look on the internet for Bryan Danielson.

WWE certainly knew Bryan had tons of talent from the get go. What is uncertain is how far they thought Bryan could go. I think he's exceeded a lot of expectations.

"HI." People overstate the relationship with Michaels. They barely interacted.
