When Ken Patera returned in 1987 he looked so unappealing. His permed brown hair, his nuthugging singlet with no kneepads, plus the fact he was in his mid forties, not in all that great muscualr shape anymore, and still wore his 1970's ring gear. Not to mention his dull promos and his stupid "Bobby Heenan made me throw a rock through a McDonalds window" crybaby crap, plus its not like he was putting on super great matches or anything. He probably the worst face I've experienced. Why anyone would get behind him I don't know.

He also legitimately hurt Heenan's neck during a ridiculous "debate" segment.

We've all been there though when a place that we want to be open is closed and we pull the ol' "30 pound rock through the window" routine.

He gave us the awesomeness of Ken Patera/Bad News Brown at Summerslam 88 on Botchamania to the tune of Fast Food Song.

I remember prior to him coming back they had like a 60 Minute vignette called the "ken patera story" and they actually broke kayfabe by explaining that he was put in jail and so on...at the time it was pretty cool bc WWE never broke kayfabe. But the excitement came to a crash when he debuted....boring!!! iF I recall I believe he was the one to name Heenan "weasel"
He became a little more interesting when he finally turned heel.
BTW, who goes to jail for throwing a rock threw a window....was there more to this then that? I can understand a fine and suspended sentence or probation but come on that seems very unusual. I don't even recall how long he served time

There's a 300 lb woman I work with, who I swear is identical in the face to Patera.

at the end of his run....he had something going with Billy Jack Haynes....it was very brief and he was gone...not even sure if you could call it a feud...but he attacked him after a match or something...doesn't matter he was boring and well thats about it.

I thought that came late in UWF. Billy Jerk left in the beginning of 88, Patera at the end of 88, both as faces, which Patera's last match being Survivor Series 88.

Patera definitely left 1988 as a face. By that time he was just another body to make up the numbers for the five man Survivor Series team.

Patera was a heel during his earlier WWF run, but not during his 1986-8 run. He was brought back as a sympathetic figure seeking redemption while Heenan played the cynical, judgemental foil unwilling to forgive or even to give the man dignity. Patera had a long-standing feud with the Heenan family (ensuring a good year or so's matches) before being teamed with Billy Jack Haynes as the Portland Trailblazers (both were billed from Portland, OR) and eventually fading out of TV-match circulation. He was rather over during his face run, though I wouldn't say he drew by himself.
