I read this as "Ken Patera has such an unappealing face" which I also agree with.

I think him blaming Heenan for being arrested when it was his own damn fault was such a chickenshit move.

I remember prior to him coming back they had like a 60 Minute vignette called the "ken patera story" and they actually broke kayfabe by explaining that he was put in jail and so on...at the time it was pretty cool bc WWE never broke kayfabe. But the excitement came to a crash when he debuted....boring!!! iF I recall I believe he was the one to name Heenan "weasel" He became a little more interesting when he finally turned heel. BTW, who goes to jail for throwing a rock threw a window....was there more to this then that? I can understand a fine and suspended sentence or probation but come on that seems very unusual. I don't even recall how long he served time Heenan had the weasel tag long before Ken Patera turned BabyFace. In fact, Heenan was wrestling weasel suit matches against Greg Gagne during his AWA run.

I'm glad this has a thread dedicated to it because I was bored of him first time I ever saw him. His 'look', his promos, his style. Just a big fat no from me. I get he was a weightlifter/strongman type dude but there was nothing, as a face, in 1988 that appealed. Think about it... The over faces in 88 were the larger than life characters of Hogan, Savage, Warrior, Sting etc. Whilst not every superstar had to be in the same mould, a 45-year-old man, botching whilst wearing a Cher wig and a more revealing singlet than Big E's in years to come (if possible) just didn't float my boat.
Awful. Just awful

Best thing I can say about Ken Patera as a good guy...um...
He is a carbon-based human organism. (Bonus points to whomever gets that reference.)

at the end of his run....he had something going with Billy Jack Haynes....it was very brief and he was gone...not even sure if you could call it a feud...but he attacked him after a match or something...doesn't matter he was boring and well thats about it. Do you have any proof? Billy Jerk left well before Patera did and Patera was still face up until the time he left the company.

Patera as a heel in earlier years was something to behold. He'd catch a sucker in his swinging neck breaker and drain the life out of the poor sap while the crowd was loving it. He actually may be the first heel who was cheered.

A 1990 Napolitano book had a bio of Mr. Saito and on the "fun fact" portion it read "prefers Burger King to McDonald's" when he wants junk food.

I always remember the debate segment where Patera and Heenan faced off and the brilliant moment when I realised Ken wasn't going to work as a face (I recently saw it again on Youtube) is when Bobby says in frustration something like 'Pressing weights, pressing weights when all you're good for now is pressing licence plates' and realising some of that crowd who'd normally boo Heenan in any other scenario were cheering him on.

He looked like a slightly more beefy version of Richard Simmons.

He looked like a slightly more beefy version of Richard Simmons. I swear, I was just going to make the same comparison! When he was younger the man was built like a masonry outhouse, but his outfit during this run was just silly. His "feats of strength" vignettes with Tony Atlas during his heel days are absolute unintentional comedic gold. I'm pretty sure they're still on YouTube. He has one of the oddest tones of voice in wrestling history; goes from pissed off to soft spoken in seconds.
