Via IGN: www.ign.com/articles/2014/03/17/castlevania-producer-koji-igarashi-leaves-konamiIga was one of my favorite developers, his dedication and refinement of the Metroidvania style starting with Symphony of the Night produced a lot of my favorite games over a large span of time with the GBA and DS games. Now he goes off just like a previous favorite of mine, the Daddy of Mega Man, Keiji Inafune. I am expecting to see a kickstarter announced for Iga's new project "TransylPalace". Japan's development structure is changing these days, and that is likely for the best.

But unlike in the West where a large chunk is amateur game developers starting out, Japan's indie revolution is being helmed by some of their best and brightest. Basically, think of it like if there were more indie studios like Double Fine.

Well, now all that you need is take out Kojima and all four geniuses that Konami had will be gone (Kojima, Igarashi and, to a lesser extent but nevertheless important, Toyama and Murayama).
If it wasn't for Kojima and PES keeping tham afloat on both a critical and financial level, Konami would (unfortunately, to me, as they made some of my favourite games of all time) be the first big Japanese company to go under in the last few years.
