Because he seemed to ask about it a lot.

He's still alive, and doesn't seem to do much anymore (outside driving around in cars and having coffee with friends) so I guess that's what he's mainly been up to.

He secretly knew what the deal was. He just kept up kayfabe in order to make sure he had his spot.

I always liked his show but hated his standup. I remember him doing a bit about how they figure out the expiration date for milk and he threw out some stupid theory like some lady in charge somewhere decides the date. Like, that makes ICP's "f***ing magnets, how do they work?" look like a smart question.

I would assume it was whatever deal he penned with NBC that led to getting his own TV show that went on to become the most popular show on TV for nine years and that is still beloved, quoted and on TV at all hours of the day over 15 years since it's cancellation, which only came because he decided he didn't want to deal with the deal anymore and had gotten rich enough and decided to quit.

The deal is that the show was great and the ending still sucks.
They need to get together and make one more episode that actually constitutes an ending.

His punchline was the cows told the person milking them the date.

I'm still trying to figure out how such a lame standup comic created my favorite all-time sitcom.

His show was great, but his standup...WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH THAT?
Perhaps the most vanilla, boring, bland stand-up act I've ever seen.

The deal is like Wade Barrett's biggah pictah, it's one of those mysteries that can't be explained.

no ... it still keeps him up at night...
Eventually it will drive him to madness... and then oblivion.
