...the earliest example of the crowd "going rogue" against what the WWF wanted from them? Watching the Mr. T/Piper boxing match right now. Obviously, the WWF was expecting the crowd to go apeshit for T, but at a point midway through the match, the crowd was cheering when Piper put T on his ass, and even started a Piper chant.
So, are there other famous examples of this happening in the WWF previous to this?

Oh sure, to one degree or another. Superstar Billy Graham had immense popularity among many, even though he was the main heel in a time when heels were heels. Savage was getting cheered heavily in his matches with Tito, though that was around the same time as WM2.
