Hot Rod vs Rick Rude Cage Match

[Mattification]

I was looking through the matches for the Piper DVD and was delighted to see this match included.

It`s a cage match between the two and it`s fantastic. Brass Knucks, blood, match restarting after they both hit the ground at the same time. But nobody I`ve ever spoken to knows it.

It`s from 1989 at Madison Square Garden. Don`t know the event. It was on an old VHS I had when I was young. Think that may have been called Superstars or something.

As well as this amazing match it had Hogan/Hercules from Sat Night Main Event, Warrior/Savage, Jimmy Snuke/Greg Valentine and Demolition/Powers of Pain with Fuji.

When I was a kid I didn`t have SKY so the only way to see wrestling was on this one video I had so maybe my memories are making the Piper/Rude match better than it was but I`m sure it`s good.

Anyone else remember this match or the video I`m talking about?

I remember seeing the Piper-Rude Cage Match from MSG from when I was a kid. Hell if I know how I saw it and what ever happened to the tape I watched it off of, though. Nice to see it coming out on Piper's new DVD though, good stuff.

I don't remember ever seeing it, think i was watching Nwa mostly by then, I am looking foward to it. But wasn't piper retired by then how did he come out of retirement that time lol.

I`m sure it`s a Gorilla/Ventura commentary. What are the odds that it`s been removed?

I don`t know anything about the fued or Piper`s retirement at the time. Maybe they`ll mention it in the documentary part of the DVD. Will definitely be the first thing I watch on the DVD.

I don`t know many of the other matches on the DVD apart from the WM ones. Know if they`re any good?

I think the Ventura-McMahon feud is over, I'm pretty sure Ventura commentary won't be removed from WWE releases anymore.

Hope you are right! Pipers matches are always pretty good to great so the extral matches should all be good and if they have the dog collar match with Greg valentine thats a classic.

There is no mention of Flair in the match lists. Maybe an appearance in the documentary.

I remember watching the match on the MSG Network when I was a kid. I agree, it was a really good match and I was thrilled to learn it would be on DVD. It was a December 28, 1989 house show, the last WWF card of the decade. Checking out the history of the WWE website, it states that Gorilla Monsoon and Hillbilly Jim did commentary that night.

I think it's a very good bet that Ventura's commentary will be on the Piper DVD. Five of the matches listed were ones that Ventura called. When there are a lot of Ventura matches on a DVD set (History of the WWE Championship, the two Hulk Hogan DVDs), his commentary is not edited out. When he's only commentating on 1-3 matches (like the Pillman DVD), it's edited out.
