I just saw the thread about The Simpsons' new couch gag, and it got me to thinking how people will react when The Simpsons end.
Obviously people will be saddened when The Simpsons ends, but how bad will people miss the show?
I think with the way people seem to outright hate the last, I don't know, 10 or so seasons of The Simpsons, I think it'll be a case of "don't know what you've got until it's gone". I'm not a huge Simpsons fan myself, but I think that when shows like The Simpsons or Family Guy, whose later seasons aren't necessarily as great as their earlier seasons, end, people will realize how much they perhaps took later seasons for granted when production seizes altogether.
What say you, FAN? How bad will people miss The Simpsons when it ends?

I mourn their loss everyday ever since they died in 2000.
In all seriousness though, I do admire the show for sticking around as long as it has, and for creating new fans and making a nestegg for the actors and writers, but I see it as a buisness these days, not an art form.

The majority of people that would miss have already checked out and own The Simpsons they loved on DVD. Like, they're just kinda "there" now and although I've watched a good chunk of episodes from the current season, I couldn't remember any if I tried. So it'll just be an "okay, it had a good run" feeling.

I don't think popular opinion will turnaround on the poorer seasons (even diehard "Office" fans still know how dreadful the Robert California season was) but I do think if the show finally does decide to call it quits, they're going to really pull it together for that final season and make it something that people are going to miss. I can see a strong ending really making people realize a huge part of their lives that's been one of televisions few constant presences for a quarter century is coming to a close.

I won't really miss the show in its current form. It's serviceable TV, but nothing great. But in its prime it was the best thing ever and a true cultural phenomenon.

It'll be a while because the earlier seasons are in syndication and the DVDs are on the shelves.
Once the later shows start running along with the earlier ones in the reruns, some people will look at the later shows with 'fresh eyes' and may actually start liking the later seasons.

I haven't given a damn about the Simpsons since about 2004.

If it ends it will be when I'm passed on to the afterlife. I've not watched it on a weekly base in possibly 10 years. From what I've seen as of late, it looks like I'm not missing much imo.

I won't miss it at all. Haven't watched a new Simpsons episode for years, I've forgot the last season I watched but it was dreadful. Boring, too many references to pop culture, too many needless celebrity cameos and just not funny.
I'll just continue to occasionally watch episodes from season 1-12 and the good episodes from later series.

Idk. I stopped watching the Simpsons regularly about 14 years ago. Not because the show "sucked" or anything, but because I never really got around to watching.

Honestly, I'll be like "Bout damn time"
I loved the Simpsons as a kid and there was a time I could quote an episode from start to finish.
But yeah, it's been a good 12 or so years since I last watched a new Simpsons episode.
It played a big role in my growing up so I can't fault it there, but it's definitely Over stayed it's welcome.

It'll be on forever in syndication.
There'll be at least one channel locally, no matter where you live, that'll have episodes on in perpetuity.

I will miss it. I'm one of the few who thinks the show now is just as good as it was back in the early days. It's never stopped being funny to me and it's one of the few shows on television that I make a point to watch. It debuted when I was 12 years old. I'm 37 now and I've watched it every Sunday so it will feel different when it finally ends. Sure, there will be syndication but I will still miss having new episodes on Sunday nights.

The best episodes have been on DVD/Blu-Ray for years, so meh. I just would like a halfway decent final episode.
