I feel it would be like if Hulk Hogan sincerely announced his retirement tomorrow.

I'll be honest, the mediocrity of Simpsons from season 13 to the garbage that is has been in the past 5 years is what's stopping me from calling it a great TV Show.
Season 1 - 12. Yes, they were great.
But, I can't call a show great that has been at best mediocre and at worst, simply dreadful for over half the time it has being on air.

It would have been better if it quit whilst it was ahead.
I mean I understand why the show is what it is now but I don't like it one bit. The later seasons of Family Guy really lowered the standards for everyone (I do maintain that the first 3 seasons of Family Guy weren't bad though, those seasons kind of remind me of Season 5 simpsons a bit)
There's like a handful of decent episodes every season and even they don't hold up to the weaker pre Season 9 episodes. the only recent episode that comes to my mind as one I really enjoyed was the Anniversary one where The Simpsons are kicked out of Springfield (and the movie wasnt that bad)
To me the show was finding its ground for the first 2 seasons, then was at its strongest from Season 3 till 8, it started going downhill in Season 9, and by Season 13 it had completely lost it.
It's not nostalgia tinted goggles either, the show has become awful. It's like they just phone it in now because Fox are paying so much, everyone involved is making big money, they've done every idea there is to do and people are watching regardless there's no point in even trying (to liken it to Wrestling the WWE have been facing this dilemma for the last decade or so) and t

I mourn their loss everyday ever since they died in 2000. In all seriousness though, I do admire the show for sticking around as long as it has, and for creating new fans and making a nestegg for the actors and writers, but I see it as a buisness these days, not an art form. Pretty much the same for me. After the first eleven seasons it's like they did a crappy remake but forget to end the original.

The show died the second Mike Scully took over anyway, and I have those first eight seasons on DVD - that is a lot of amazing content, so I can't even say I 'miss' the classic era, because I've stopped watching the shitty new episodes and just watch the old stuff.

The Simpsons isn't The Simpsons anymore but I still completely and utterly enjoy what they put out, with in my opinion only a couple of dud episodes in their last few seasons. I think no matter how many people trash it these days that almost all of them will miss it when it's gone. Right now so many take it for granted or look down on it as a product of their childhood or past but it has grown up with us, it's been a constant that is always there and when it's no longer there I think it will leave a bigger hole than expected on the TV Landscape and it's fans, past and present.

Though its best day are long, long behind it, I still enjoy the hell out of the show. They have some clunkers here and there (the Lady Gaga episode was one of the worst episodes of any TV show I've ever seen, just dreadful) but overall it's still a good show, and I'll miss it when it's gone.

Moe's Bar Rag was literally the worst episode of The Simpsons ever made. I think people who 'don't tune in' anymore hear and then go and see the bad parts, like that particular episode, and continue to let The Simpsons pass them by when there are some really entertaining animated comedy going on.

For me, at least, it's out of sight and out of mind. If you asked me before this thread I wouldn't have known The Simpsons was still on tv. I watched it every afternoon on syndication through the 90s and on FOX until about 1999 or so, and then lost interest. I can't remember the last time I've even thought of the show beyond thinking I should buy some of the older seasons on DVD and then thinking eh maybe later, and I also can't remember the last time I heard it come up in a conversation.

Fair play, this must be a region thing as here in the U.K I know a lot of people who still tune in and talk about the show. Maybe it's more the States that have fallen out of love with it or let it fall to the wayside? I'm not saying everyone should love it or be super into the show, I'm just saying I know of a lot of people who would rather tar it all as 'bad' and not watch it instead of giving it a chance in other situations rather than just when they've been told a certain episode sucks.

Personally, it'll be a sad, sad day for me.
While I can't deny that the quality has taken a nosedive over the years, I've been watching it since I can remember. It's going to be sad when something that's been around for my whole life suddenly isn't there anymore. Sunday nights will just feel weird.

Sure, with that ridiculously huge contract that FXX just signed a while back The Simpsons will be around for a while, but I just wondered how people would feel when there wasn't the option for new episodes anymore.

While i still watch the simpsons, their recent obsession with modern-day technology is really getting annoying. All these refs to tablets and such are really dating the show.

Isn't that something that could be great about it though? I mean I'm just thinking that if in 10 or 20 years The Simpsons has went through a resurgence and is still going strong, wouldn't it be cool to be able to look back and see references to things that were a big sign of the times? I mean it's not as if the show is stuck too much to the past or looking too much to the future, it's changing with the times like all things do. It would be pretty neat if in 15 years The Simpson family are using the tech of day or listening to a new hit band and we could look back on The Simpsons now and see and experience things from our late teens even to our early 30s etc? I think that would be great.

I honestly don't think many people will truly care.
As many have said, it has sucked for far longer than it was good.

No Simpsons episode was worse than Boys Of Bummer. Just needlessly cruel and desperately unfunny, and most of the cast wasn't even in character properly. The Gaga ep could have been great, especially given who the special guest was, but the script was just so paint by numbers (save for one exchange towards the end between Gaga and Moe)
