Because in every DVD, interview, book etc., Vince always speaks as though it was Ted Turner himself who was trying to end him and gave away results and dumped titles in trashcans. Even in the WWE 50 book, Vince writes Eric off as just a "puppet."
Did Ted Turner really have a sick vendetta against Vince or was he a harmless rich dude who just loved rasslin?

It's a chicken and egg situation. Had Turner not let Eric do anything he wanted WCW would have never had a chance.

I always thought it was kind of a pissing contest. Turner was like "oh I have a ton of money, I'm gonna start a wrasslin company" just to show Vince up. I imagined it as a friendly rivalry, anything you can do, I can do better kind of thing.
Since Bischoff is considered a puppet, I wonder if he cleared a lot of the potshots at WWF with Turner beforehand or did he have complete creative freedom?

Because almost losing to a billionaire famous businessman and then conquering Ted Turner sounds better as opposed to ex AWA announcer and Ken Doll Eric Bischoff.

Did Ted Turner really have a sick vendetta against Vince or was he a harmless rich dude who just loved rasslin? It's the latter, but Vince convinced himself it was the former. Turner bankrolled the thing and famously gave Bischoff the Nitro timeslot and beyond that, had no other input. But Vince loves the story of him as the underdog fighting against that evil Ted Turner.

In addition- the fact that Bischoff ended up working for Vince, and Bischoff's claimed the two became friendly and shows a lot of respect for Vince, actually gives the reason more often: To Vince, Ted Turner was the one trying to take down WWF and put him out of business. By contrast, Vince and Bischoff both seem to take the "nothing personal, just business" viewpoint about each other.

I think part of it has to do with timing. When many of the MNW retrospective things came out, Bischoff was an employee of his.

The greatest insult you can inflict on your enemy is to forget them.
And what Eric Bischoff has shown of his personality publicly, he would much rather Vince bash him at every turn and revel in that fact than be ignored.

Bingo and its amusing how obsessed how Vince was with billionaire ted when Tunner himself most likely didn't give two shits about what Vince was doing as WCW was pretty much just a Hobby for him.

Vince just really hated Captain Planet. once he finally saw it in 1998 he decided Hoggish Greedily was supposed to be a parody of him. Verminus Skum being the Kevin Dunn stand-in goes without saying.
