Because some fans think if you don't want to destroy your body by wrestling every show in a non-stop cycle of World travel, Signings, making TV and personal appearances 365 days a year for the rest of your life it somehow means you don't care about "the business". Which is all the more ironic that Cena gets so much hate online because he is that definitionn Cena gets that much hate because WWE pushed him so hard at the expense of the majority of the roster. If Cena did all that stuff, but was a jobber, we'd all be saying that he "Deserved better".

He constantly put over pro wrestling huge while being the biggest draw in UFC history and I've never heard anything about him being reckless or unsafe in the ring until he returned and became public enemy number 1 for the uber-smarks. I just think a lot of it is him not living and dying for this business pissing some off.

AJ loves the business, and gets mocked for it, on air So I really don't blame guys like Batista and Lesnar treating it as simply a way to make some money, and not really caring much beyond that. And didn't they come up in OVW during the time it was run by Al "If you're not here to make money you shouldn't be here" Snow?

I think it came down to typical petty WWE smear campaigns because he left on his own terms to pursue other interests. He wanted to try football before he was too old, and then MMA. One of them was a success and now he's back, bringing more exposure with him. It's not like he left them high and dry. He fulfilled his contractual obligations so he's done nothing wrong, aside from not having a good match with Goldberg, something not many people were able to do anyway. Only vets were able to carry him to a decent match (Sting, DDP, Hogan, HHH)
