The biggest thing I didn't get was the CM Punk chants at WM when Bryan was in trouble in the triple threat match.
There was a large segment, it seems, who wanted Punk to appear and save Bryan ... to be the reason he overcame the Authority rather than having him beard up and upset the odds to win it for himself.
It seems to me that would have really undercut him if he only wins the title(s) with help from the outside, made him look weak, underscored the Authority's notion that he was, indeed, just not good enough.
Why would people who so obviously wanted Bryan pushed, who wanted their Yes! moment, who want Bryan as the Face of the WWE, want an outcome that makes him look like, well, a B-plus player?
I don't get it.

Well, before I saw the spot, I wanted someone like CM Punk, The Shield, or even Hogan to save Bryan, more so for the surprise of it. Once that Batista Bomb-RKO move happened along with the follow-up, it was better that nobody came out. I guess the idea of the surprise was enough to get the crowd going.

It seems like it's just a random go to chant now.
It's really goony.

It seems like it's just a random go to chant now. It's really goony. I'd say no more random than Y2J or Randy Savage chants. If anything, at least the Punk chants have to deal with something relatively recent that has bearing on the current WWE landscape. That being said, I'm thankful Punk didn't save Bryan, it allowed D-Bry to look strong alone.

At this point, now that the company is actively listening to fans, chanting CM Punk is rather pointless. Dude left of his own initiative. However valid his reasoning may have been it was still his own decision. Only thing keeping CM Punk from working at this point is CM Punk.

It seems like it's just a random go to chant now. It's really goony. Goony? I could totally see Punk making some approximation of Mouth's "This was my dream, MY WISH!!!" speech to Steph, Vince and Triple H before he walked out.

There's still that connection between Bryan and Punk, and Punk and the Authority. Random CM Punk chants during matches make less sense, but I get why fans would chant for Punk to come out at a time like was described in the OP. Remember, it was after Triple H and Steph already interfered, and then the other 2 guys in the title match specifically decided to take Bryan out. It was Bryan against the world, having a little help from a big surprise return isn't that crazy.

The match was turning into a 90's style WWE main event, with twists and turns and 2nd referees and interference. And since modern WWE rarely uses that style any more, to see it in the main event of Mania was kind of fun and exciting. So people bought into the idea that anything could happen, Punk showing up there would make some sense from a storyline perspective.

I think that the odds were being stacked against Bryan so much, and he'd failed to overcome them before, that the crowd figured SOMEONE had to help Bryan beat them otherwise he wasn't leaving as champion.

Punk coming out to fight off the outside inference wouldn't be undermining Bryan, it would be just ensuring there was a level playing field.
It's also one of the unfortunate side effects of this reality era and all the crappy screw job endings of Orton's reign, they've conditioned people to expect it.

I could totally see Punk making some approximation of Mouth's "This was my dream, MY WISH!!!" speech to Steph, Vince and Triple H before he walked out. On his return the first thing you hear isn't his music, it's him yelling "Hey you guys!"

I think the "CM Punk" chants have morphed from a "we want to see CM Punk" chant to a "Boo, Screw you Triple H, we are going to chant CM Punk to piss you off because you have pissed us off with your kayfabe actions"

Yeah, when I thought of anyone interfering to help Bryan I thought of the Shield...Punk ain't comin back! The crowd was chanting CM Punk during Raw's big beatdown on Bryan, right? WWE's Youtube video of it edited it to replace it with the "Hounds of Justice" chant from later, which is a pretty clever piece of audio manipulation if I say so myself.

When Triple H arrived and inserted Scott Armstrong into the match as referee, which was followed up with Randy Orton and Batista teaming up on Daniel Bryan, I won't lie, I got caught in the moment and thought, "Now would be the perfect time for CM Punk to return." But looking back on it, I'm so happy that he didn't. Daniel Bryan needed to overcome those seemingly insurmountable odds by himself, and WWE needed to make it look like all hope was lost before Bryan began his comeback.
Had Punk just come back, the attention would've been focused on his return, rather than where it ended up, and where it should have been all along, on Daniel Bryan finally thwarting The Authority and winning the championship.

It was a nice break from the fans screaming and chanting "Yes", "Yes", "Yes" over and over again. And no I'm not a Daniel Bryan hater.
