You know, part of me thinks the only reason he is still champion is because it's a rib on him backstage because he complains about having to carry the belt around when he travels. The whole of me thinks that's absolutely not true.

Let's relive some of our favorite Ambrose US title moments.
Remember that time he came out with the Shield carrying the belt?
How about that other time he came out with them with the belt but he carried it on the other shoulder?

I remember the great moment where Ambrose wore his title like it was an homage to MNM

Okay, I see. Thanks for clearing that up No problem . As for Dean Ambrose reign....I can't remember the last time he defend it. Hell Raven 1 day reign was probably more memorable then his right now. I think he's gone longer than Big Show in terms of holding the belt without defending it. Big Show went 5 and a half months (No Mercy 2003 to WrestleMania XX) without defending it, Ambrose has gone 7. The US belt is the Cruiserweight belt of the 2010s.

Although, he did go almost four months between title defences (Big E at Hell in a Cell to Mark Henry on Raw in February 2014).

He's actually defended it a lot more than I realized he did... especially earlier in his reign when he was even defending it on NXT.

But, because how little the belt has meant in storylines, you tend to forget when the belt actually is defended.

The first Mark Henry defense was actually on RAW and I think it was the beginning of the Shield vs. Authority tension.
Because I think Kane setup the match.

The first Mark Henry defense was actually on RAW and I think it was the beginning of the Shield vs. Authority tension. Because I think Kane setup the match. It was actually supposed to continue the Shield implosion angle as they were being interviewed by Renee and she brought up him never defending the title. Reigns makes some jabs at him for being a coward, so Ambrose just proclaims that he'll face anyone that will show up in a US title match.

Just let him keep it. Occasionally have him switch it out for other forgotten belts--ECW, Cruiserweight, European, Hardcore, just for variety. Have no one draw any attention to or bat an eye at when he's wearing a different belt. I love this idea. Throw the Bob Backlund big green belt and this idea is solid gold

I loved his reasoning when Reigns questioned him as to why he never defends the title.
"Do you have any idea how much paperwork is involved?"

Looks so out of place Unless the shield start wearing colors it just sticks out like a sore thumb seeing red white and blue on a trio that has pretty much only worn black for as long as they've been together.

This Authority story is perfect to get it off him and try and use it as heel heat for stealing his title away from him while giving the heel who wins it a bit of a bump.
It HAS to be a title for the lower level guys, mainly seen on Superstars, NXT and Main Event. IC has to be for guys who can look good against main eventers and make the step up. They can easily fix this title situation and boost their Shield storyline in one go.

Off the top of my head I can remember the following title defenses: vs. Kane vs. Rob Van Dam vs. Mark Henry vs. Big E
Maybe vs. Kofi at some point?
and that's about it.
EDIT: Oh, and he defended against Dolph a couple of times. Unfortunately it feels like most of his title defenses ended with DQs.

I think the whole reign would be more impressive if the title was actually defended. What happened to the days when the IC, US, and Tag Titles were actually defended, had their own storylines, built up stars in the process, and gave those titles a sense of legitimacy?
The reality is of course a reign would be long booking wise if it's never defended.

Maybe they just want him to surpass MVP, seeing how Porter is with TNA now.
