Can't say that I've ever seen them but I do remember years ago hearing reports of the KKK trying to set up shop in New Zealand and Australia.

Coincidentally there is a group in the Philippines called KKK: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KatipunanThey were rebels who were against Spanish rule and demanded freedom, and they used machetes. I wonder how the clan feels about another race of people using the three intials KKK.

I'd like to see a study on the amount of diversity in the different types of hate groups in the US and if they'll understand the irony.

Izzat 12 in Massachusetts?! Good lord! Looks like it. I remember there was some controversy 2-3 years back in my neck in the woods (Worcester, which for the unitiated is in central Massachusetts) when some Neo-Nazis wanted to use the public library for some event. I don't know why they wanted to use the library. My guess is they did it solely for the attention said controversy would generate. I mean, why else would they pick a public library? Their reading list probably consists of Mein Kampf, The Turner Diaries.....And, yeah that's about it. I assume atleast one of the hate groups in New York is probably based in Queens. And I base this solely on the "Archie is Branded" episode of All in The Family.

Let's think of it as a service industry. If it is popular in a region a larger proportion of the population will frequent those who provide that service, meaning that more businesses per population will need to service their needs. As a result, the population per group providing that service will be lower than in areas it is less popular. With that in mind, I did a little math for everyone so you can determine just how popular hate groups are in your region:
Rank State pop per group 1 Arkansas 123,307.21 2 Montana 126,895.63 3 Mississippi 135,963.95 4 Vermont 156,657.5 5 Tennessee 175,566.97 6 Idaho 179,126.22 7 West Virginia 185,430.4 8 New Hampshire 189,065.57 9 Georgia 199,843.34 10 New Jersey 202,257.70 11 Nebraska 207,612.89 12 Alabama 219,714.64 13 Oklahoma 226,504 14 Louisiana 231,273.5 15 Delaware 231,437.25 16 South Carolina 238,741.95 17 Indiana 252,727 18 Missouri 262,790.04 19 South Dakota 281,625.67 20 Wyoming 291,329 21 Kentucky 293,019.67 22 North Carolina 298,426.06 23 Colorado 309,903.94 24 Pennsylvania 311,556.12 25 Virginia 317,707.88 26 Arizona 331,331.2 27 Florida 337,118.28 28 New Mexico 347,547.83 29 Nevada 348,767 30 Rhode Island 350,503.67 31 Ohio 373,251.87 32 Maryland 395,254.27 33 Oregon 436,673.89 34 Texas 464,003.39 35 New York 467,883.98 36 Utah 483,478.67 37 California 497,824.95 38 Michigan 549,756.78 39 Massachusetts 557,735.33 40 Illinois 560,092.83 41 Wisconsin 574,271.3 42 Kansas 578,791.4 43 Iowa 618,083.2 44 Maine 664,151 45 Minnesota 677,547.5 46 Washington 697,140.6 47 Connecticut 719,216 48 North Dakota 723,393
Obviously, Alaska and Hawaii are missing from this list as they were not in the figure provided by the OP. Looking at the list there are a few things not surprising (Gee, hate groups are popular in Arkansas and Montana) and a few things actually surprised me (the supposed yokels of N. Dakota don't quite hate as hard as other rednecks but Vermont sure as hell does). Looking at the list, I am not surprised that my home state (Indiana) is in the top 1/3rd.

This looks like the map from the Southern Poverty Law Center.
If so... let's just say their methodology of defining a "hate group" is rather... biased.

23, must be all southern Missouri. For 31 years I lived here never once have I came across any signs of them. I'm glad of that too.

41? I know this is stereotyping a little, but I'm really surprised we have more than most of the southern states. James Carville once accurately described our fair Commonwealth as "Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, with Alabama in the middle"

The 23 in Illinois have to be from the southern/rural parts. I can't imagine a KKK group having the balls to show up somewhere like Englewood. Shit would get real. Don't forget the central parts of IL. Having grown up in that area, those stats wouldn't shock me.
