41? I know this is stereotyping a little, but I'm really surprised we have more than most of the southern states. James Carville once accurately described our fair Commonwealth as "Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, with Alabama in the middle" Don't get me wrong, I knew there were plenty of racists in this state, hell I've seen quite a few in my town, that that statement sadly may be pretty accurate...still a little surprised though.

My grandma's uncle was apparently in the KKK. She talks about it so hilariously nonchalantly, but I find it pretty bizarre, especially since my mom married a non-white, and I'm a mutt. I wonder what he'd think of me.

15 and I'm actually shocked it's that low. Glad, but still shocked considering, well, the area I live in.

I wonder what the numbers would be like if you added Neo Nazi groups.

Looked into it and the local chapter of the KKK has since changed into a "Southern Gentleman's Association". Open enrollment to all races & genders. I wouldn't have thought I'd see the day.

I wonder what he'd think of me. One time I was hanging out with a couple guys I knew from high school and some of their friends. We're in the middle of a damned mall when one of the dudes I don't know whips out a membership card and starts talking about his Klavern or whatever. I was thinking a)crap, I'm hanging out with some pieces of shit unknowingly, and b)If this asshole keeps mouthing off, there may be a fight I've got nothing to do with. Needless to say, I didn't hang out with them again.

Let's think of it as a service industry. If it is popular in a region a larger proportion of the population will frequent those who provide that service, meaning that more businesses per population will need to service their needs. As a result, the population per group providing that service will be lower than in areas it is less popular. With that in mind, I did a little math for everyone so you can determine just how popular hate groups are in your region: Rank State pop per group 1 Arkansas 123,307.21 (Gee, hate groups are popular in Arkansas and Montana) We're #1.. bleh. Also ouch on the assumption/presumption. I mean obviously the numbers bear ya out (and I think the national Klan headquarters or whatever the f*** they would call it is about an hour and half north of here in Harrison), but even so. Ouch.

If this is the graph from the Southern Poverty Law Center than I would take it with less than a grain of salt. They used to be used by the FBI as a source for data in regards to hate crime and hate groups but in the past few years have been removed as such because their criteria came into question as well as the results they came up with. They were WAY higher than any other reports and the only organization that showed an uptick in hate groups in the country.

Ehh...
I think what would be more useful is a map telling me where these hate groups are in the states. It's something I need to know if say I'm to go to some relative's house in Louisiana and I pull a True Detective and have to go through damn Erath? I'd like to know how close I am to getting killed by hate groups with a notorious reputation with killing, disenfranchising and driving out swaths of people...
Like the NoI or Black Panthers, of course! No, really though. I wonder how they classify hate groups and who else falls under them because that nagging voice in the back of my mind kinda tells me it's based on the stupidest shits...but you know what?
Let's not even go there. I'm not even on the internet right now, I'm supposed to be playing Borderlands 2.

If it makes you feel any better, I fully expected for my homestate to make the top 10 as well. Then again, maybe we have fewer groups here than I expected because the rural areas that would foster such groups are virtually devoid of minorities, which means that racists feel less need to congregate.
