I actually never really minded that it was this short. I thought it was cool.
But to me, Ric Flair's guest appearance on "The Cleveland Show" was great and probably the best.

I remember they also hyped the hell out of Bret's appearance on "Lonesome Dove"

Short cameos can work. The George Harrison cameo is one that comes to mind. That one was actually relevant, though. It was a music episode. I also felt that the Bret appearance was shoehorned and pointless, with its only purpose being allowing a celebrity who was a fan to guest-star on the show. I hate when the Simpsons does this. They shouldn't have guest stars on there unless they can actually work them into the plot somehow.

There was no reason for it to be Bret. He used a voice that he has never used for anything else, acted totally unlike either his real self or his character, and the appearance was incredibly short. A sign of things to come, most definitely.
Thinking about it though, I am surprised The Rock hasn't been on The Simpsons yet.

Seem like a lot of people who do guest voiceovers for the simpsons are real fans, thus they feel honored to do it and probably do it for little money.

I love The Rock's ring work but this is genuinely one of the best things he's ever done.

Bret was saving more of his talent for Mad TV than The Simpsons.
At least Bret's cameo on The Simpsons didn't reduce that episode to one of many episodes of celebrity worship.

I think Bret has gone on record saying that this was the most important/memorable thing he ever did in his career.

I love it just because its a cool cameo that is a nice little spot as a big Bret fan and it fits within the narrative of the plot. Which many guest stars nowadays dont do.

I think Bret has gone on record saying that this was the most important/memorable thing he ever did in his career. ...What? There was a minor interview, not that long ago, where they asked him what his greatest accomplishment was. He said that it was probably the Simpsons cameo because it would always be around whereas if the WWE wanted to they could make his footage disappear. Something like that. It seems like the interview was when he was in one of his depressed/cynical moods that he seems to get.
