That was a mean review, and a bad review at that. He tells us it's bad, but he never really gives any reason beyond he is bored of the franchise and wants it rebooted. That's a fair enough opinion, but I dont think someone going in to the film with that opinion already is the best person to give a balanced review.... someone should create a film series where every entry is a reboot "The last X-Men reboot was five years ago, hit the reboot button again!" X-Men: The Original Team (2017) "Oops, that joke Cyclops made about a glare coming off Xavier's head fell flat. Reboot it!" X-Men: Old School (2018) "Okay, I'm liking the acting, the jokes are working, the action is incredible, and the villain is compelling, but the costumes could be a little brighter. We're starting from scratch people. Reboot!" X-Men #1 (2019) "Wow, this new one is awesome! It's everything a movie should be and more! Its absolutely perfect in every way...but, f*** it. REBOOT!!!"

Xmen would be a good place to do it... since they basically retconned at least one thing in every film

So based off of critic reviews this is looking like Singer's first miss in terms of his X-Men films?
If so that makes me sad and disappointed because X1, X2, and Days of Future Past were amazing.

That's what it seems like with the Spiderman series. I don't see why Sony felt the need to reboot the franchise after the last movie, ASM2. I don't get it.

Because they basically were counting on Avengers-level money to kick off a big shared universe (though they had zero reason to expect anything close to that) then panicked when it didn't happen. And probably also in part because the ideas they had for subsequent movies were really damn stupid. Among other things the plan was for Norman Osborn to be a head in a jar and for the Stacys to be resurrected.

I have a friend who works at FOX and shes been telling me how bad its lookedfor months and I refused to believe her, cause, well, Singers rep with X-Men movies. She claimed for months many of the actors were very frustrated with Singer and again, I assumed BS. But a early reviews have been negative..kinda sad ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png)

If you want to do a Spider-Man prequel centered on spy work, wouldn't his parents make way more sense? They're the ones with that sort of backstory, and they did a lot to lay the groundwork for it in Amazing 2. That stuff was terrible and dragged the movie down every time it came up, along with introducing a ton of plot holes, but it was there. 2. Could this be the one way to top (bottom?) Trouble?

I think trouble would be worse than Aunt May super spy... though both are horribly out of character ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

They lost faith that the series would turn a profit. Marvel got full creative control as part of the deal and wanted a fresh continuity. I sill maintain that had they kept Gwen alive, the movie would have done better, and they'd still have full control of Spidey. But they had to stick to comic canon, pissing off damn near everybody, the flaws of the movie were more noticeable, and some people refused to watch it. As for Apocalypse, I'm going to watch it, I've got faith in a Bryan Singer X-Men film.

It doesn't change that very little actually happens in the movie and is quite obviously stalling for time to setup hundreds of spin-offs. That said killing off Gwen is never going to work in the movies as well as it did in the comics for one simple reason. In the comics Gwen's death affected EVERYONE. From the obvious of Peter. To things like it being the reason Mary Jane got her shit together and stopped being the vapid party girl she was up to that point. Gwen was such a fixture in the Spider-man section of the Marvel Universe everyone felt it to some extent... and there was absolutely no way in hell that a movie series is going to run long enough for it to have that kind of an impact.

someone should create a film series where every entry is a reboot S'kinda what they're doing with the Godzilla series - out of the last 9 films made in the franchise, 8 of them were reboots.

Terminator 3, Terminator Salvation and Terminator Genesys were all the first part of a trilogy of movies that are never going to get completed... so that could count too
