news.sky.com/story/1252321/actor-bob-hoskins-dies-from-pneumonia-aged-71Very sad to hear. I knew he retired not that long ago because he was suffering from Parkinsons, and this is a shame to read. Who Framed Roger Rabbit will forever be a childhood favourite of mine. It'll be the movie I remember him most for anyway (although you could argue Super Mario Bros. as well in terms of drunken movie viewings).

The Long Good Friday is great film with him in it. If you have not seen it, I recommend you track it down.

Damn, that sucks. He may have hated the role, but I thought he was a good Mario.

RIP
I remember reading his retirement a few years ago. Who Framed Roger Rabbit was one of my favorite movies as a little kid, my sister tells me I wanted to watch it over and over again. I'm nostalgic for Hook.

I loved Who Framed Roger Rabbit and for me, he was probably a highlight of Hook.
This really f***ing sucks, but I remember hearing he was in kind od a bad way for a while now. I hope he's found peace and had enough time to say his goodbyes and put his affairs into order.

And I just watched that Roger Rabbit "things you never noticed" video that was posted here yesterday.....the day he died. Well, Roger Rabbit 2 is officially done. They cannot make it without Eddie Valiant (Hoskins even said, after retiring too, he'd reprise the role if it ever happened). Also fondly remember him for his role as Smee - in HOOK, and in SyFy's Peter Pan miniseries a year or two back. RIP sir.

Such a shame. He was an often underrated actor that I think many just link to as Eddie Valiant and Mario.

What a shame. Such an awfully talented actor who ended up in some really left-of-field projects (Spiceworld, Super Mario Bros., Who Framed Roger Rabbit) considering where he came from and what his forte was. I'll especially always have a place in my heart for Super Mario Bros. Even though Hoskins was known to hate the part, I thought he did good work considering the material he had been given. I had a Mario action figure based on Hoskins that I played with so much that the paint chipped away. It's a pretty bad movie, but I really, really loved it as a kid and watched it countless times. My avatar on here for ages has been a painting of John Leguizamo from SMB's poster. I even dressed up as the movie version of Luigi for a school play as a kid and somehow convinced my aunt to have this outfit custom made for me:

I just got off the phone with a friend who heard about it and he said "I loved his cameo as Mini-Me in Goldmember. HEY ASSHOLES!"
I had to remind him that was Danny Devito.
