An interesting thought to pass the time:
With the recent (hopefully temporary) departure of Prince Nana from ROH, as well as with a number of other factors, a major change has really swept through the entire company.
In 2005, Ring of Honor almost seemed to revolve around stables. Hell, Trios Tournament 2005 basically happened BECAUSE there were so many; that tournament included Generation Next, the Rottweilers, the Embassy, the Second City Saints, etc.
But things have changed: with Homicide's recent face turn, the future of the Rottweilers is very much in question. With Prince Nana leaving, the Embassy, as we know it, is done in ROH, at least for the time being. And Generation Next, having accomplished everything they set out to do in 2004, disbanded a few months ago.
So, where does this leave stable-life in ROH? Is having numerous stables even neccessary?
I would argue yes: stable wars make for very entertaining programs, and stables are very, very effective ways of getting young talent over, as they get to learn from older workers and hide their weaknesses well in the group setting.
But what to do?
As of right now, in ROH, the only stable I see is Cornette's team, the guys basically sent out to stop Homicide. That includes Adam Pearce, his "manservent" Shane Hagadorn, the Briscoes, and some guest appearances by Steve Corino.
Other than that...nada.
Again, what to do?
Gun to my head, I say this:
-Keep the Embassy alive, even if you change the name. Put Jimmy Rave in charge, start an angle where he has Daizee Haze as his bodyguard (think of the heat he'd get for "having a girl do his dirty work"). Keep Sal Rinuaro with him. Then maybe bring in some other names...in fact, I say bring in someone new to kind of play the role Abyss did during the feud with GeNext, someone who shows up occassionally to be a hired gun for the group.
Someone like...Super Dragon.
The Embassy can continue without Nana, just, again, with a different name.
-Rebuild the Rottweilers. Homicide is obviously still the leader, but the push Ricky Reyes was getting inexplicably stopped recently. That sucks; the dude's been solid this year, and deserves a chance. I say, bring in B-Boy, or maybe someone else if Romero isn't going to be back any time soon from NJPW, and keep the Homicide and Smokes core.
-What to do with Lacey's Angels? The team fell apart when Whitmer left to fight the CZW feud, but we've still got Jimmy, Lacey, and now Colt, not a member, interacting with them. Still life here? You be the judge.
-The Kings of Wrestling. Yep. I say expand 'em. Hero and Claudio are the foundation, now give 'em some kids to push around.
-And, perhaps the most important thing:
When Christopher Daniels returned to ROH in mid-2005, everyone knew he'd be a face. His return pop would be huge, and, when Punk went heel, everyone knew Daniels would have to be the face in their inevitable feud.
But, in the past year, while Daniels has done some good stuff (like the feud with Joe), he's stagnated. He has that stigma now, that feeling of "he'll never win a title here", and that sucks, considering he used to be one of the most dynamic characters in ROH.
For much of 2005, people argued that the Prophecy had gotten old, and wasn't needed; but, given Daniels recent stagnation, it would seem the time has come: time for the return of the Prophecy.
And time to turn Daniels heel.
Daniels, Danger, and maybe a couple younger guys and an enforcer. How about Matt Sydal, who's been teaming with Daniels sometimes, as one of the younger members?
-Cornette's Crew: another one to expand. Has great potential.
Ok, not saying that I'd put ALL of these groups around at the same time, but it's an idea...anyone else with any thoughts on the matter?
