If they do strip him would the belts stay unified? I'd hope so. Resplitting the titles would be a step backwards.

They can half ass it and have him keep the titles for 2 ppvs and it'll be the most boring shit ever. Or they can have him forfeit, recover, and win it back...
If Bryan can't work, just lose the titles heh. No one other than us on message boards gives a shit seriously. He can beat whoever when he comes back.

This reminds me of Austin having to forfeit the I.C title.

This would work better for a lesser belt but it be interesting to some system where a heel boss figure like Stephanie give an "out" to the champ by having various other mid-card babyfaces who've rallied around him defend the belt on his behalf, fully expecting them to quickly lose. It backfiring as the other babyfaces rise to the occasion and still keep finding a way to retain the belt could get them over, especially if the champ puts over the group via promos. Granted it would have to involve a heel or a group of heels losing a lot for a bit, but it could work. I love that idea!

I don't have a problem with Bryan having to give up the belt if he's going to miss more than one PPV. It fits his gimmick as a "hard luck hero." Hell, have him volunteer to vacate the belt instead of the Authority stripping him of it: Bryan can come out on Raw and say he respects the title too much to hold onto it without proving he deserves it.
Another short reign isn't going to hurt Bryan's legacy at all. This is the guy who beat John Cena clean in a straight up no-frills match. This is a guy who defeated three certified Hall of Famers at Wrestlemania. His spot is secure as long as he can come back healthy.

They have enough talent and hot angles going on to run a PPV or two without the champion. Shield/Evolution can main event Payback (it's only f'ing Payback after all) and at MITB the MITB match itself can even main event.

I don't know if it has been mentioned but Hogan didn't wrestle on TV from April 4th 1993 when he beat Yokozuna in the infamous impromptu match until June 13th 1993 when he dropped it back.

Also I've seen nobody mention the very real possibility (and I believe, the solution) that they'll give the title to whoever gets the winning pinfall in the 6 Man Tag...it'll add a layer of intrigue and backstabbing potential to get it over as a marquee main.

And let's not forget Dean Ambrose's US title reign. Almost a year and maybe 6 defenses. He defended it 14 times, counting the one time he defended it in NXT... not counting the times he defended on house shows.

Ryback gets powerbombed by the Shield again to start RAW. He forgets the last year or so of his life. He comes out to FEED ME MORE to save the Shield later that night against Evolution.
Instant Mega Face turn.

If he's going to miss more than one PPV, strip him of the title. Why is this even a discussion? If a guy is injured for an extended amount of time, you don't keep your world title on him during that time.

If it were Randy Orton people would be calling for his head on a platter.

Strip him and ban him, then in three months have masked superstar Senor Si take the Universe by storm by winning the title in his debut match.
Si! Si! Si!

Strip him of the title, have the Authority ban him for life. Come Summerslam, he comes back undergone mask as American Dragon, takes the title and spends the next few months foiling th Authority's attempts to unmask him.
