never ever thought I would see a 1990s Tory sleaze scandal mentioned on this forum. Nevermind in a thread about a yokozuna. I take my hat off to you sir for your completely out of leftfield joke! I'm just glad someone got the joke! I read this forum everyday but it is the first time I have felt the need to post in two years that's how much j liked it.

I think the pay check thing might be right. Yokozuna seemed to be a rather special client for Fuji back then because he was unstoppable, unlike Fuji's other chump clients. Yoko was his only client when he debuted. He dropped Orient Express earlier in the year (Tanaka left, Kato stuck around for a while as a JTTS). In fact, IIRC, Fuji disappeared for a while in 1992 - he returned (in the new robe get-up) when Yoko debuted at SurSer '92.

Wait, why would manager give the person he's under contract to manage a paycheck? Doesn't a manager usually get paid by their client? Or in case of a sports team by the owner or the league/promotion they're a part of?

Actually Fuji was still managing The Berzerker for a few months after Yokozuna debuted.

For those who didn't know what I was talking about, here's a gif of Fuji giving the envelope to Yoko from The March to Wrestlemania IX Special: How long did he do this for? I've noticed it from when Yoko debuted until WM IX, funnily I never noticed him doing this until I started watching the WWE Network.

Sunny Onoo did it with some guys in WCW as well.

Santa gave Bret Hart an envelope after his match against HBK at 92 Survivor Series and I've always wondered what that was about.

I think it goes along with the origins of Yoko's character when different people had different forms of his name for him and he was either billed from Japan or Polynesian Islands. Seems like writers didn't know the exact direction to go with the character, even though he was being slated for the main event.

I always found cool that they went the extra mile with the sumo gimmick, doing little things like this or the women giving flowers They never had Fuji throw the salt that I can remember though... even though he had the bucket. (other than at his opponents obviously... but I meant before the match)
