Yeah, not suprised it was here in Indy. It's not the first time someone has gotten a sentence like this. My question is why were 12 years suspended.

Funny, I just watched I Spit on Your Grave for the first time... when I see this kind of stuff, I say courts would have only themselves to blame if some people end up taking it as an inspiration. After all, this is the exact kind of shit that inspired the making of that film in the first place.
I mean, what the f*** goes through these people's minds? Do they seriously think rape isn't that big a deal? Do they not realize the message it sends to victims, as if it wasn't difficult enough for them to dare speak up? And what about the message it sends to potential rapists? That they should feel free to go ahead and do it because they'll get away with it?!
Judge like that should be disbarred on the spot, they have no business deciding the fates of people.

f***ing disgusting. The lack of punishment for a guy who has committed such a terrible crime many times over a period of years is just as bad as the crime itself. This judge/the jury should be ashamed.

This is absolutely f***ing disgusting.
Of course, I'm expecting the MRA community to jump to the man's defense because she was his wife, thus the consent to all of this was already implicit in their relationship.
Ugh.

I heard about this story in the local news, but I didn't expect the guy to get no jail time.
This is downright disgusting.

It's weird. How do these people get into position of being judges. Some of these people couldn't judge a pie eating contest.

Yeah, I read this in the Indy Star yesterday and thought about posting about it, but assumed that Ghidorah would beat me to it.

This is precisely why there's vigilante justice. To think, just a few miles away, some kid is getting a twenty year mandatory minimum for a first offense of having a joint. Our "justice" system, ladies and gents.

This dude and the judge need to be kicked in the dick once every ten minutes for the rest of their lives.

With stories like this it makes me wonder if just any f***wit can become a judge.

Not to get too political, but the best things the residents of the county can do is to vote the judge out (or to not retain him).
If there is any justice, someone will fund a massive campaign when he's up for reelection.
EDIT: Never mind, he's one of 16 candidates out of 16 on the ballot for a Superior Court position and is thus guaranteed to be elected to it. So he will not face any justice or repercussions. Very sad.

This comes across to me as another person in authority who believes that rape "isn't really" rape if it isn't done in the dramatic way usually seen in a movie, e.g. forcefully, in a dark alley, with the victim yelling for help or something.
The reality is that most rapes don't happen that way, yet even a criminal law professor at Ivy League schools seem to argue that there needs to be force involved for rape to "count" (he doesn't use those words, but it amounts to that).
I'm sure there's also the bias involved that tries to say "they're married, he can't really rape her". It's insane.

Chemical castration should automatically be tacked on to any sentencing related to rape cases like this.

This is a judge defying the will of the people (as the jury convicted him) and also being an enabler of rape culture. f***ing disgusting.

"When you get married you might expect you're gonna get a little sex"-A former elected official (who I won't name just to play it safe with board rules, but you can find this quote and who it is attributed to in "Great Government Goofs!" by Leland Gregory III) explaining his opposition to rape legislation for victims within marriage. So this isn't far off from your theory as to how some try to justify light (or even zero) punishment for the creton of a perp.

It's a common pattern, that judges, even female ones, don't take rape seriously. You could get a longer custodial sentence for possessing a small amount of drugs for personal use than if you raped someone, or even killed someone as the "affluenza" shithead proved.
