Ricochet is finally scheduled to defend the DGUSA title... In August. That's right folks he will have held the title for 4 months before actually defending it...

I take it DGUSA hasn't been doing well lately? I stopped paying attention to wrestling (and especially the indies) for a few years there.

DGUSA is being neglected big time. There's an audience for it, but between DG not sending their guys, the lag in DVD releases and Gabe not having the fire he use to, it makes for a bad company.

Its sad that nowadays the upper echelon of dgusa/evolve gets more exposure from pwg.

I thought Gabe shut the promotion down after Gargano lost the title.

Funny enough FIP has been doing the fairly well over the last few months and for the longest time it was the bastard child in the WWN world. And NO DGUSA has not been doing well. The WWN Experience was a bit of a failure and DGUSA and Evolve have basically become booking guys on cheap who are in in the area for CZW or NYWC shows. While FIP doesn't have great competition in Florida

I was at the Mercury Rising show in New Orleans night before WM30.
I was at the Mercury Rising show in Atlanta night before WM27.
The difference was startling. Show presentation-wise, the one in Atlanta was great ... good pacing, they had big HD TVs propped up for promos between matches, they played music for those few moments of down time, lots of DG guys from Japan, it felt like a really strong Triple-A level minor league show (not to mention Brodie Lee/Luke Harper and Jon Moxley/Dean Ambrose being on the bill).
The one on NOLA was horrible. Long pauses between matches with nothing happening. No music to keep things moving along. No TVs for promos between matches. Only Japanese guy was Masato Tanaka (who held the original ECW title for about a week), who came out of retirement to wrestle one six-man tag match. Terrible venue, decent in-ring action but absolutely bush-league production, more like what you'd see at a local indy putting on its first show in an armory.
I felt sorry for them, really.

So I assume Gabe is putting most of his time into EVOLVE now then? If this kind of stuff is happening

So I assume Gabe is putting most of his time into EVOLVE now then? If this kind of stuff is happening Why does Gabe not simply run EVOLVE, DGUSA, and FIP as a single promotion with one name. It seems like it would be easier to put his effort and resources into it that way. One company, one set of champions.

When they started DGUSA and EVOLVE were almost booked as if they belonged in different universes, but then they merged them together along with FIP and just made things confusing. They currently have 3 main event champions, and two separate tag team championships. There's no real division between the shows so all the guys just seem to randomly get different title shots out of nowhere. It's a mess.

Merge them all into one company and hope people will start to care again. Because I'm having a feeling that Dragon Gate is just waiting to pull out the deal with them.

the other thing that has hurt Gabe is that initially many felt that going to DGUSA was a good way to get to Japan. However, outside of Richochet, Rich Swann, and Uhaa Nation none of them are getting looks in Japan.
I know for a fact that there are a couple wrestlers who were offered DGUSA contracts and were told they'd probably get booked in Japan, but those things never came through.

Dragon Gate only wants people who work in the Dragon Gate system. For a while it did look like DGUSA was getting guys bookings in Japan but that well went dry. The only puroresu company with more than 4 Gaijins is New Japan and that's because Gedo and Jado are fans of the American style. I don't see Maxwell Chicago getting booked with Dragon Gate. I was shocked when Larry Dallas of all people got a Japan booking.

Oh I understand that, but Gabe is supposedly still telling indy guys he wants to use/keep out of ROH that he can get them booked in Japan. I'm a CZW homer for sure, but DJ has gotten guys like Latin Dragon booked in Mexico and Rory Mondo in Japan. He also got Jonathan Gresham's foot in the door for a great stint in Europe. Quack can be a bit of a dick as a promoter but he has gotten his guys decent bookings outside of the US.

Being in ROH and CZW opens a lot more doors for you internationally than DGUSA. Much more. He might be able to sell that to lower tier guys but the more established names know that promise is full of shit. The Bravados got the NOAH booking through ROH. Since they left, nada. With Quack though, it's more of paying your own way for international bookings. Basically the international version of showing up for a wrestling show looking for a booking expect it's travelling thousands instead of hundreds of miles to do so.
