First Round Recap:
Our first match was a grudge match between Hawk and Jerry Sags. The LOD and Nasty Boys were coming off of a series to title matches over the summer and there were still scores to settle. Fittingly, he bout was more street fight than wrestling match but Hawk won with a Flying Clothesline.
Two of wrestling's greats Ricky Steamboat and Ted DiBiase met up in a classic bout. Steamboat climbed the ropes for the Flying Bodypress but Sensational Sherri pushed The Dragon off the ropes. However the referee spotted it and DiBiase was disqualified.
Our next bout was another brawl between "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan and Brian Knobbs. During the match the ref was knocked out and Jimmy Hart tried to take advantage by tossing his megaphone to Knobbs but Knobbs turned around had was hit by the Duggan's three point stance clothesline for the pin.
Before our next match, IRS announced that The Berzerker hadn't paid taxes on his sword so he would have to take it. This enraged the Berzerker who overpowered IRS but when he tried to throw him out of the ring, Schyster managed to slip behind him, rolled him up and with a handful of tights pinned him. After the match, The Berzerker chased IRS but the taxman knocked him out with a chair and took the sword.
Next, it was the chance of a lifetime for Pete Doherty. The Duke of Dorchester was coming to the end of his career but was entered into the tournament as a last minute replacement for the injured Kerry Von Erich and was determined to make the most of this opportunity. As he was introduced he snuck in from the crowd, charged Bret Hart and was rolled into a small package and pinned in just 4 seconds. Still, the Providence crowd gave The Duke a standing ovation as he left the ring.
In our next match, Virgil had Skinner in the Million Dollar Dream. Angry over the fact that his former bodyguard had taken his Million Dollar Belt and now his finisher, Ted DiBiase hit Virgil with a chair. He would have done more damage but Ricky Steamboat chased DiBiase away.
There are few men bigger and more powerful than The Warlord but he met one in Sid Justice. The Warlord was at a loss on how to handle his larger foe and fell to the powerbomb.
And in our final first round match, Animal of The Legion Of Doom fought valiantly but was no match for the awesome Undertaker who got the win after the Tombstone Piledriver.
Now we are down to eight. Who will move on to the Semifinals? Time to vote.
