It really is a silly premiss.
Having planes as hostages... Look I can buy taking over air traffic control but come on.
Why didn't the planes just fly to another airport? Oh the weather closed the neighbouring airports... You know how far a plane travels in the run length of this movie? They could have gotten to Canada. Or any of the hundreds of airports in that radius.
But the radios were taken over... Yes but that little air traffic guy managed to send out a warning over the outer marker signal. Any smart pilot would have figured after that they can't land at Dulles... And just try their luck at one of the closed airports nearby. Like that airport near the Pentagon for example.
I know it's just a movie but these things just take me out of it.

Eh most people I know who have watched Die Hard 2 seem to like it.

It's like going on a date with the plain sister of Die Hard. Sure, it's a fun date and all, but you spend the whole time wishing you were going out with Die Hard instead.

I enjoyed it, it's decent enough it's no Die Hard but then what the heck is? The twist shocked me a bit as well

Remember the soldier who got his throat slit, well he said he was filling in for a guy that was sick..
Was the sick guy in league with the baddies as well?
Hell of a day to get sick.
"Sorry boss, can't betray my country today... Nah, I have the sniffles.. Yeah it sucks I know... Pete's good, but i don't think he will go with the whole traitor thing... OK, Enjoy wherever you end up.. Buh bye"

The scene where he fires blanks from a machine gun at Dennis Franz without being pumped full of bullets himself was just ridiculous.
But, I did like it overall.

I don't think Die Hard 2 is a bad film; 1 and 3 are just so much better. Didn't know people hated Die Hard 2 but I'm sure A Good Day to Die Hard is the most hated movie of the series now.

Fortunately 4 and 5 came along to make it look a whole lot better. As for the fourth movie, I know some people crap on that one, but I think it was actually a lot better than what they say about it. Some people say that it's too over the top and stuff, as if the other three weren't. How is swinging on a fire-hose off a roof that explodes not over the top? How is ejecting from a plane cockpit with grenades that take a little long to detonate not over the top? How in the hell is the guy you're teaming with being at the same site with you hurling right out of a sewer full of water not over the top? Not to mention the hurling out of the sewer because one would just drown from that. Regarding the fifth, I remember liking it the night I saw it, but then I thought back on it and realized it was bad. I don't even want to add it to my Die Hard collection. I actually do like the fourth film. It's got an interesting premise, and there's still some semblance of what makes McClane so likeable - the fact that he's a reluctant hero who would rather be anywhere else but in the middle of the shit that's happening, but he's the only one who can sort things out. The fifth one is McClane actively seeking out trouble, and being an asshole.

People dislike it? It's awesome. Ya, I've never seen/heard anyone badmouth it.

It's not hard to picture an older dude being out of his element when it comes to technology.
