I'm not really a sarcastic person myself, but I do find sarcasm hilarious. In books, tv shows, movies or real life, a sarcastic reply or comment will always get a good laugh out of me.

Sarcasm is great when done correctly and I don't consider it a low form of comedy at all.

Brilliant post, Einstein. It's always nice to see positive comments on a chat forum. To many people go negative nowadays.

Serious answer here;
This is a pretty recent thing. This is because you've got a lot of kids growing up with comedies where one of the main characters is deadpan and sarcastic. They identify to this character so they emulate it without realising that the character exists in a fictional universe and most people constantly talking like that would get smacked in the mouth.

cos Oscar Wilde said so, and then people decided to mis-quote him constantly
"sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, but the highest form of intelligence."

Plus fictional people have writers. It's not nearly as obnoxious when the person is actually clever and witty, most can't pull it off with their own material.

Because it's easy. Just about anybody can be sarcastic. Some people really can't. A lot of people can't pick up on it. Also, sarcasm doesn't have to be mean. It can actually be complimentary if you do it right. Anyway, many consider puns the lowest form of comedy.

It's one of those "if you don't have something nice to say don't say anything at all" things. Which I think is a load of crap.

Sarcasm is like a great dick-fart-shit humor joke. It can be some of the most funny material when done right, but it's done terrible so often it gets a well deserved bad rap.
