Growing up in the 80's it was taught to us if we have sex we will get The AIDS and die. Just wondering if FAN knows anyone with the disease or knew anyone that died from it.

I didn't know him directly, but a close high school friend of my older sister had AIDS and he died in the early 1990s. I saw him in some plays that he was in with my sister, but I didn't really know him.

My cousins' cousin (other side of their family) died from AIDS related pneumonia in say 95.

I feel like there should be a "not AIDS, but HIV" option.

Strange, jokey 3rd option for such a serious subject.
And it's just AIDS, not The Aids.

Maybe not the right place, but the Bo Dallas joke option and the topic of AIDS gives me a rare chance to use one of my stupid photoshops.

None that I'm aware of.
They might have it, but I never ask.

Yep, the boss on one of my first jobs, who turned out to become one of my best friends caught it in the mid 80s via a blood transfusion. Even though I met him in the late 90s, I still remember the stories he told about how back then, I guess the pre Magic Johnson days, he was embarrassed to tell people he had it since it was stigmatized as a disease that only affected "faggots and junkies". I am just glad to say he lived a long life, raised a family, and died at, while a bit too young, at 61 via pulmonary embolism.

I have a follower on Instagram with HIV, if that counts. Probably doesn't, but that's about it.

Well, hopefully in 10 years we can joke about cancer this way

Thankfully, none of my friends or acquaintances have HIV or AIDS (caveat: that I'm aware of. I don't expect every acquaintance to tell me their whole health history). I certainly hope it stays that way, and I agree with Ghidorah; may cancer be next on the list of diseases that starts becoming more and more rare.

My choir teacher, Mr. Winkles, had it and passed on in '95. Really nice guy, great teacher. I remember we had an all school assembly to discuss it.
