It's took the better part of almost two years but Dean Ambrose has finally won me around.
For a good year or so a lot of people on this forum hyped the coming of Ambrose - the truth is people built him too much. The hate Mick Foley got for not working with him didn't help my opinion of Ambrose. What kind of WWE rookie throws away a chance to work with a Legend like Foley over some stupid comments about this family?
Since then Foley has wrote about how the whole thing was a misunderstanding - Dean was overseas when Mick told him to stop the comments and by the time he read the message it was too late.
Somewhere along the line I stopped thinking Dean was average and became a huge fan of The Shield. I could never pinpoint what I actually liked about them though, the combination of the three just seemed like a sweet spot where everything clicked.
With the recent split its quickly becoming clear who was the real talent. Roman was a couple of signature moves and Seth is a good workhorse. Dean is guy with the skills to take him to the top.
The way he talks, his facials in the ring, his believability as a character and the connections he tries to forge with the other characters (very important to me) reminds me a lot of a certain Hall of Famer - I haven't been able to get him out of my head every time I see him now.
Who else thinks Dean channeling a healthy dose of Edge?

Is he going to bang Roman's wife to get over?

I think Ambrose is what Pillman could have and should have been

I don't see the ressemblance at all. Edge was more one dimensional.

I get the Piper and Pillman vibe. I feel like he's probably taken the best of several "crazy" characters and been able to combine them into what he's got going. I don't know that I see Edge so much, but I didn't watch a lot of WWE during Edge's heyday.

I think Ambrose is what Pillman could have and should have been I see a great deal of 1995/96 Pillman in Ambrose. Given that Ambrose is from within 20 miles of where Pillman grew up and trained in Norwood, that doesn't surprise me. Point blank, guys, Pillman was a big deal around where I grew up for a very long time. He was the local boy makes good who played college and pro ball for the home teams, then his wrestling career was on the national stage. Even when wrestling was incredibly down, think 1994 and 1995, you could go into several local restaurants with sports themes and find among all the Bengals and Reds stuff at least one Pillman wrestling poster on the wall. So I see another local kid who has a lot of Foley and Regal aspects in his work, but in his character I definitely see a good bit of what Pillman was becoming.

Yeah, he reminds me of Fabulous Moolah too. I guess Bret won't be getting hard when Ambrose is wrestling.

I've been comparing him to Edge, myself - if only because I think Edge's role as the weaselly top heel who could carry the show when necessary seemed like the ideal ceiling for Ambrose.
He is now surpassing my expectations, and I now think he'd be able to live up to the top babyface potential that I felt Edge showed around 01-02.

The thing that I have found surprising is that he has gotten over as a babyface first.
I think everyone (myself included) figured him as a natural heel but I also thought eventually he might be the heel who gets more and more pop than heat, setting up a very over face turn.
But to get the crowd behind him from the start is a serious sign that this guy is truly something special who might be around in a big way for a long time.

I get vibes of Scott Hall, Piper, and Pillman as well as Ledger's Joker.

Yeah, he reminds me of Fabulous Moolah too. I guess Bret won't be getting hard when Ambrose is wrestling. If Bret could still wrestle, they could be a team called "Tits and Bones"

I get vibes of Scott Hall, Piper, and Pillman as well as Ledger's Joker. I'd throw Jake Roberts in there as well.
