This is a list I've wanted to do for a while. Michael Elgin will not be on the list for obvious reasons
#18: Xavier: His gimmick for a while was "I'm not going to defend the belt" and when he did the matches weren't very good, The only positive was it started Joe's reign
#17: Low Ki: He held the title for two months and defended it once before dropping it to Xavier. They shouldn't have done a reign like this for the first champion
#16: Homicide: He had an amazing build to his title win and then had a really really disappointing reign.
#15: Jerry Lynn: This was a title reign that defines wasted opportunity, They should have had someone else beat Mcguinness and use that to elevate them to the top.
#14 Jay Briscoe: I don't like the Briscoes in the slightest but his reign was actually incredibly pointless as they ended having him stripped of the title so it did no one any good
#13: James Gibson: It was short but I have to give him credit for how emotional it was when he finally did win. But it was too short to amount to anything
#12: Eddie Edwards: He's a great wrestler but his title reign really was unnecessary Especially since he was just used to give the title to Richards in short order
#11: Roderick Strong: Similar to Homicide the build was awesome but the reign was way too short for the build and over all unspectacular
#10: Davey Richards: 321 days 10 defenses, two of which weren't even in ROH, But when he did defend the title it delivered
#9: Tyler Black: He put on several great matches as the champion and worked as a great heel at the end. True it wasn't as good as when Punk did it but it was still pretty good.
#8: Adam Cole: He was different than any champion before him he was an outright slimy weasel with incredibly cheap victories that Nigel Mcguinness during his title reign would have questioned
#7: CM Punk: His entire reign may have been one angle but it was a freaking great angle and his story made every match seem much bigger.
#6: Takeshi Morishima: He was the monster heel ROH never really had who would run in and just wreck people, He seemed unstoppable and made Mcguinness' victory seem much much bigger.
#5: Kevin Steen: It was fun to see an anti establishment champion that was a heel for once, he had no real motive to try to do this except he felt like doing it, not to mention that it logically made sense that a pragmatic brawler could hold on to the belt for nearly a year
#4: Austin Aries: Yes he was a two time champion but I take the length of a reign as more important than how many reigns but both times held it he was a great champion who had many amazing matches.
#3: Nigel Mcguinness: He held it for 18 months and tied the record for title defenses but he didn't add much to the world title not to mention he defended the title as much as the man who set the record but it took him three months more. I will give him credit for wrestling a few matches with two torn biceps.
#2: Samoa Joe: What can I say about this that hasn't been already? Well I guess I should explain why he isn't #1 He held it for 21 months a truly impressive reign but several matches were mostly the same Joe comes in beats the hell out of them and wins usually in about 15 minutes. This was an iconic reign but not the best.
#1: Bryan Danielson: He was champion for 15 months so I bet you're wondering why if reign length matters so much to me why Joe isn't number one. Simple because a longer run doesn't necessarily mean it's a better run, it's how you use the time you are given with the title. In 15 months he defended the title 38 times put on countless unforgettable matches none of which were incredibly alike to the other ones, he defended the gold against many international stars and elevated at least two people to the status of credible main eventers. In my opinion he did everything that makes a good World champion, Put on good matches frequently defended it, and put over many talents making them look just as awesome as he did.
