It makes as much sense as superpowered John Simm did. Touche. What I can't get over is that Missy's overall demenour is classic Master but her end game is what puzzles me. The Cybermen wouldn't be my choice for a conquering army that I could sit at the head of. The Master has to be smart enough to realise the Cybermen won't be controlled, that it's only a matter of time before they try to convert him/her as well. Then again the Master has been guilty of some massive blindspots in logic before. It also kinda annoys me that Moffat has made the Cybermen into henchmen after Neil Gaiman went to all the bother of making them an intimidating enemy again. I'm getting bad flashes of Doomsday and how the Cybermen were little more than a plot device once the Daleks showed up.

Maybe she is pissed the Doctor did not bring Gallifrey back, essentially abandoning her. Sacrificing yourself to stop Rassilon is one thing, having to spend forever trapped in a pocket universe is another.

And allying with the Cybermen, who are guaranteed to turn on her at some point, is the best way to do that? I dunno, I guess it'll be explained on Saturday but right now it seems like it's... Step 1: Cybermen Step 2: ? ? ? Step 3: Profit?

Step 1: Cybermen Step 2: ? ? ? Step 3: Profit? I never said it was a good plan. It's classic overconfidence. Missy is thinking "I'm better than them, so they will serve me, if they turn on me, I will beat them because I'm better than them". It's not the first time he's done this, just off the top of my head there was Survival where he thought he was in charge despite the planet he was on physically changing his body, because he's the Master and can overcome anything. And I agree that she's far more Masterly than the new series has presented, while keeping some elements of the Simm Master, in particular the relationship, well, you can't really call it subtext anymore.

Very good first half in my book. I'm very excited about the conclusion.
I was actually surprised that people who theorized that Missy was The Master turned to be right and I'm actually rather glad they did. She acts way more like The Master than the previous version did and the actress is perfectly cast, being suitably dark and charismatic without ever going too far. Goes to show that female versions of the characters can work if they're written well.
I don't see why her activating the Cybermen wouldn't make sense though. The way I see it, the Master doesn't necessarily have an endgame with it, she just wants to cause chaos, make the Doctor suffer and maybe kill him. Wouldn't you agree that this is something the Master would do?

Well, I thought tonight was astounding. Best finale in New Who. It feels like this is a story Moffat's wanted to do for a long time, and it stands head and shoulders above his other finales. Not going to give any spoilers even in tags because I don't want anyone seeing them by mistake, but yeah. I'm really happy tonight.

I was just really hoping for series 9 to be The Doctor with a defeated, resigned Missy as his new companion on a quest to find Gallifrey. It'd be like the white version of Time Haters.

Great finale. Missy's one of my favorite TV villains ever.

That finale was great. Hell, so great it made me actually like Danny Pink at the end, especially with him sacrificing his chance home to give the kid a 2nd chance at life.

Like someone else said, it made me go from hating Danny Pink to actually liking the character and the evolution it went through... ...Not that I'd ever want him back or want to rewatch the episodes specifically for him ever again. The actor's skills being one of my issues with the character to begin with, really. And, why I was dreading what was coming initially when I put together how Pink was heading in this two parter. Luckily, he hit it out of the park and really had his strongest moment here. I think this might've been Moffat's best season finale. It was so well told and so...bleak. All of it. Pink, Clara, the Doctor, even Missy. {Spoiler}Another thing this episode accomplished was making me like Clara again after finding her pretty much unbearable for the majority of this season. Just in time for them to have that last scene, which I think might be my favorite one of the companions' departures in the new Who timeline. I'm glad that slowly they've gotten away from making it overly sappy or overly they're parting ways but better for having met each other route that RTD went with Rose and Martha.
They've progressively gone darker with each companion since Donna. And, really, I almost feel like this one was darker than the Ponds' departure. Yeah, that was sad and yeah, the Angels stuck them in the past to live out the rest of their lives. But they had each other, and they had their family, and they had some form of peace with the Doctor.
Clara...has none of that. Pink is gone. She more or less hates the current Doctor after crushing on 11. She is alone and worst of all, by her parting words, it sounds like she feels she is nothing special.

Terrible episode, one of the better finales though (which says a lot about NuWho finales) but I still think Parting Of The Ways was the best finale as that one was actually good

Overall I'm conflicted leaning on positive over the finale, but one thing really bothers.
I know Osgood is just a pointless little comedy side character so what she says and does shouldn't be taken so seriously, but HOW THE HELL WOULD SHE KNOW WHO THE MASTER IS?
