Indians placed RHP Justin Masterson on the 15-day disabled list with a right knee injury.
Jayson Stark of ESPN.com hears that a deal sending Jake Peavy to the Cardinals could happen "quick."

Okay, I really want to see a game at O.co now. The crowd chanting "PENCE YOU SUCK!" to the melody of the music is amazing.

I like to consider these consecutive Cards walkoffs as an ongoing nonviolent protest over Adams's All Star snub.

I know he could still make it, but I find the lack of Jose Abreu on the Home Run Derby roster to be a surprise.
EDIT: You'd think I'd learn my lesson about clicking links that don't have any context to them. And yet I clicked on fuzzy's link all the same. Still, better to know now than on Friday, right?

Better question would be who's spot would he take? Him in place of Carpenter, sure I'll go with that. Honestly for 1b I think Rizzo was the bigger snub. Yeah he's hitting .330, but he's only got 8 walks all year long and as many RBI's as Billy Hamilton.

The New York Post's George A. King III reports that Masahiro Tanaka has flown back to New York in order to undergo an MRI on his pitching arm.

Ah f***. Hope it's nothing serious. If Tanaka has a serious injury, this year's pretty much a lost cause.

Red Sox designated C A.J. Pierzynski for assignment. It's time for the defending champions to concede this season. They are 39-51, 10.5 games back in the division and 10 games back in the Wild Card chase. Only Texas and Houston have worse records in the American League. The Red Sox need to start looking to 2015, and that means trading away the aging veterans whose time in Boston is winding down and calling up some of the prospects to give them a look at the big leagues. That means finding suitors for Jon Lester, Koji Uehara, John Lackey, Jake Peavy, Jonny Gomes, Stephen Drew, Mike Carp, Craig Breslow, Edward Mujica, and Jonathan Herrera.

Jury finds the Dodgers negligible in the Brian Stow case, ordering them to pay around 4.5 million of the 18 million settlement. The two men who beat Stow will split the rest while Frank McCourt doesn't have to pay a dime despite owning the team at the time.

Most of those names I agree with but I would try to keep Lester & Lackey. With Lester, if they can't negotiate a contract extension by the trade deadline, they've got to deal him away and get as many top-flight prospects as they can. They've lowballed the hell out of Lester since he implied that he'd take a hometown discount back in Spring Training, so I don't have much faith in the organization being able to land him on anything close to resembling a team-friendly deal when there are 29 other sharks circling in the waters this winter. With Lackey, as much as I enjoyed his 2013 image rehabilitation tour and as thankful as I am that he turned his career around after the 2011 fiasco, he's already quietly started grumbling about his contract for 2015. He's due to make $500,000 next season and he's already implied that he would sooner retire than play for that. Send him away, get something back for him, and let him be another franchise's headache during the off-season. Realistically, only Lester, Lackey, and Uehara will net the Red Sox anything worthwhile in a trade. Everyone else that I mentioned would either net them something resembling a player to be named later or would be a candidate to be designated for assignment.

Everyone else that I mentioned would either net them something resembling a player to be named later or would be a candidate to be designated for assignment. I know the Sox lowballed Lester but I'm a little more optimistic that they can still work out a deal. Besides, if Lester is traded what's the back-up plan? Do they spend just as much money, if not more, to sign Max Scherzer, or do they just give up on 2015? Buchholz is unreliable and while I like the kids they may struggle while learning to pitch at the Major League level. Lester & Lackey can shoulder the burden of getting the wins while giving the kids time to develop. I do agree with moving Koji. I love the guy but he'll be 40 next season and I don't know how long he has. Time to sell high. But despite the way this season has gone I think the Sox just need a few tweeks to contend next year. They don't need to be blown up. Then again, I also thought bringing Stephen Drew back was a good idea. I plead temporary insanity on that one.
