Good for the Astros for both avoiding a 100-loss season and having Jose Altuve as the AL batting champ.

Only the 89 losses for the Cubs this year. Hoping for at the very worst a .500 season next year, and a half-decent TV deal.

I think things will finally come up the Mets way very soon. If they can add a bat or two in the offseason, the Mets might make some noise especially if Harvey comes back whole. Cubs and Mets are my teams to watch in 2015.

Yeah, the Mets need offense in the worst way. But barring some major misfortune, they should have a STACKED rotation next season.

What a tease of a final day today was. Entering the early slate of games, the prospect of THREE one-game playoffs tomorrow seemed like a possibility. But by about 4 p.m. Eastern, those hopes were cruelly dashed. So now we await Tuesday and Wednesday for the play-in games.
Also, today was the merciful conclusion of the 2014 Red Sox campaign. They finished with a 71-91 record and the seventh-overall pick in next June's amateur draft. Hopefully they don't butcher this high selection as badly as they did when they chose Trey Ball in the 2013 draft.

Well, the hype faltered quickly today.
I'm rooting for the Angels is this one. I'm hoping the World Series will be Angels/Dodgers just to see the fan intensity down here and the plummeting TV ratings on the other side of the coast

Any Survivor fans who read Boston Rob's twitter? He pointed out that since he began dating his wife Pittsburgh Amber, at least one team from either Boston or Pittsburgh played for a championship. So, by process of elimination, the Pirates will be in the World Series.

Lost a lot of respect for Boston today. Why the hell did they need to kowtow to Jeter is beyond me. He's the enemy. Boo the shit out of him. He's just retiring not dieing

Lost a lot of respect for Boston today. Why the hell did they need to kowtow to Jeter is beyond me. He's the enemy. Boo the shit out of him. He's just retiring not dieing Why should they be bitter and hold onto a pointless grudge? What would booing him accomplish? Derek Jeter is not "the enemy". He played shortstop for another team in the division. And quite frankly, since 2004, that's all the Yankees are. It's not the 1970s or 1980s, the blood feud between the Yankees and Red Sox has simmered. And he never called out Red Sox fans, he never ridiculed Boston for its racist past, he never showboated or went out of his way to rub Boston fans' nose in it while he was winning championships and the Red Sox were finding new and inventive ways to lose. Sure, in the late 90s and early 2000s, there were a collection of "Yankees Suck, Jeter Swallows" shirts being sold by vendors around Fenway Park, but those were always purchased by the fringe fans, the lowest common denominator who still crop their head up on Twitter whenever P.K. Subban scores a goal against the Bruins or Torrey Smith mocks a billboard in Foxboro. I'm sad to see Derek Jeter go, because not only was he one of the best players of this generation, but he was the last vestige of when a Yankees vs. Red Sox game meant something, when each game at Fenway or Yankee Stadium had playoff implications. It doesn't mean that any more. Frankly, it hasn't meant that in years. Now when New York visits Boston or the Red Sox head to the Bronx, it's game whatever of 162. Outside of that fringe sector of fans I've mentioned earlier, who even cares when Brett Gardner drives in a big run against Craig Breslow? Do Yankees fans really stay up all night wondering how Dellin Betances couldn't strike out Brock Holt? So yeah, I'm a Red Sox fan, but I'm also a baseball fan. And I absolutely tip my cap to Derek Jeter for an outstanding career, even if many of his hits came against the team I cheer for.

I don't know with players getting paid what they are I find it hard to celebrate them that much on a farewell tour on a rival just because they are a great player. Jeter isn't one of those players that really goes above and beyond for charity, Hell he isn't one of those nicest guys around where everyone seemed to love him like Rivera was. He's just a guy who played the PR machine like every athlete tries but instead of the media and other fans realizing it they praise him for doing so. He's not classy he just built a wall around himself. I don't get why that's worth what the Red Sox did for him as a Yankee in Fenway.
In the end sports are pointless and what Jeter did wasn't something that really changed the world that 100 other players haven't done in the time as a baseball player during his career. So to see him get this love just shows that if you play the PR game right you can get people to "love" you because of circumstance

So to see him get this love just shows that if you play the PR game right you can get people to "love" you because of circumstance So because a guy is discreet with his personal life and keeps to himself, he deserves to be booed during his final game as a professional ballplayer? And what does it matter what Derek Jeter is paid? He made $12 million this season. He's a professional athlete, and athletes are paid commensurate to their abilities on the field. And what does it matter what his charitable endeavors are? His Turn 2 Foundation has raised nearly $20 million in grants to programs in New York, Florida, and Michigan to keep kids away from drugs and alcohol. But I guess because he doesn't rub that in people's faces on a daily basis, he deserves scorn and ridicule? And as for the whole "he's not classy, he just built a wall around himself," how do we know he's not classy if he did build a wall around himself? What's the worst thing we've ever read or heard about Derek Jeter? That he engages in dalliances with starlets and celebrities? THE HORROR. And if he did "build a wall", what right is it for us as fans to try to knock that down? Jeter kept to himself and always said the right thing publicly. I'll take that nowadays over other superstar athletes who are now known assholes and dirtbags like Ray Rice or Adrian Peterson. And maybe the love wasn't because he knows how to play the PR game, but rather because he knows how to play the baseball game. He earned respect from Red Sox fans for a phenomenal career, which we witnessed roughly 15 nights a year, and for always doing it with class and dignity, when he had every right in the world to snap at Red Sox fans for their homophobic taunts toward him seemingly every time he strolled to the batter's box.

The Detroit Tigers became the first team in MLB history to win their division two years in a row by exactly 1 game both times.

Anyone who has an issue with the respect that the Red Sox and their fans have for Jeter simply doesn't get it.
