You'd think with the lucrative Direct-to-DVD market that Sly Stallone would throw on his "Producer" cap and let some of the other characters from The Expendables series get a small single adventure for an extra buck or two.
Hale Caeser home for Christmas when he's left defending his family once a younger relative angers a nearby gang. Including a scene where he ends up being attacked and going through his presents ("Remember that come Christmas time") for weapons (Complete with punchline of him opening the present from Dolph Lundgren's Gunner character being something useless like a book of poetry).
The off-center Gunner Jensen's car breaking down in a dinky town and he ends up falling for a woman being forced into a marriage so he helps with his own brand of backfiring-MacGyver-like tricks.
Toll Road (Randy Couture) going home to a "Walking Tall" like situation.
I mean, there are dozens upon dozens of reused action movie plots every single year. Lundgren and Couture are already on the Direct to DVD landscape.
Daggone it, Sly. Do a reverse Avengers already.

I don't think it would work on the same level as the Avengers because, honest to god, I don't give a shit about the characters. It's all about the actors. So having the characters' story be expanded would be "neat" but it wouldn't increase my involvement in the HELL YEAH BLOW THAT SHIT UP thing at all.

No, because it's not the characters were here for, it's the actors. It's the opposite situation that the Avengers has. The actors already have their own adventures in the form of their own individual actions movies they've already stared in. The whole charm of The Expendables is that it features a giant mass of action stars.

I can't remember a single character's name in any of the movies, but I sure as hell know who the actor is.

The Expendables spin off better be called The Expandables. At last, the perfect way to get Val Kilmer involved with this franchise...
