Let's play a game of Monday morning quarterbacking.
We can all look back to the arrival of Ric Flair, Sid, and Lex Luger (to a lesser extent, since he didn't wrestle for awhile) to McMahon-Land circa late '91 and into 1992 and think about what could have been. Hogan vs. Flair at Wrestlemania? Sid as the new top face after Hogan left? Luger getting to avoid the WBF and instead get right into wrestling? None of these things worked out, for various reasons.
That said, after watching a bunch of OSW Review episodes lately I couldn't help but notice that, if this had all happened in a more modern era, this period in WWF history likely would've/could've been treated as a nWo-esque/invasion angle. Just looking at the card for WM 8, you had Hogan and Savage, the two guys with the longest title reigns in the WWF going back to 1984, against Sid and Flair. I recognize that Vince wouldn't acknowledge the NWA/WCW that much back then (beyond, you know, trotting their World Title on his TV shows for all to see), but it's weird to think about how differently something like this might've been handled in a different time.
So pretending for a moment that you know everything that's about to happen that'll derail things (Sid failing a drug test post-WM, Hogan leaving WWF for awhile, etc.), is there anything you would've done differently with the cast of characters that all played a role in the goings-on in the WWF at this time? Hogan, Savage, Piper, Flair, Sid, Luger, hell, even somebody like 'Taker or whomever.
For me, I don't think I'd have changed having Savage vs. Flair and Hogan vs. Sid, but would've considered altering the booking; in this case, not having Hogan get the title shot first and then "dropping it" to Macho, and instead having him in the WWF legend role as the guy who has to stop the invading monster, Sid.
