Well, giving her absolutely zero mic or promo time while giving her opponents more attention certainly didn't help.. Apparently, they did do the whole NXT style pretaped promos but Vince thought they sucked and didn't want them on Raw.

I don't know what people have as a problem.
She shows up on TV with no build after an acclaimed run on NXT, is a fangirl for AJ after she beat everyone, gets challenged when she isn't ready, wins on a fluke, then spends the next few months as an underdog champion winning other matches on flukes while being shocked and happy to be there, and eventually has AJ beat her for the title again, after which she happily becomes AJ's fangirl following her loss and doesn't seem to care as long as she can befriend her hero.
Yeah, Bayley just had a GREAT start to her career, didn't she?

as a placeholder so that AJ can come back from vacation and job out the entire division again makes it even worse. The fact that AJ isn't even that over with crowds makes it even funnier. "AJ's back everyone, isn't it amazing?" "CM PUNK! CM PUNK! CM PUNK!" Yes, because AJ's never gotten a reaction out of the fans other than CM Punk chants.

She had everything that got her called up scrapped in an instant.

they could have probably used some taped viginents (sp) showing Paige in NXT doing her thing there right after she won the belt to get people familiar with her.
Cole: Well we have a new divas champ Paige who won the title in an impromptu match with former champ AJ. now for those of you who may be unfamiliar with her from NXT here's a look at our youngest divas champ.
<best of paige video plays>
JBL: WOW MAGGLE! AS NXT GM I CAN TELL YOU PAIGE IS FOR REAL AND IS GOING TO BE A FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH HERE AS CHAMP!
instead we get "what a fluke." "she won again" "flukey win everyone else should hate her for it" "she won again"

But for someone who was put over everyone else for years, she sure receives a proportionately small amount of love from the fans.

Per WWE's plans, I doubt much "went wrong" - she was always designed as the placeholder whilst AJ was away, the three months would let fans know her (not entirely sure how well that really went), and once AJ returned, they start the feud, which is slow burning right now.
Personally, in hindsight, I'd have had Naomi win the title, then had Cameron screw her out of it against AJ, and then in the meantime, slowly introduce Paige without the title pressure off the bat.

Yes, because AJ's never gotten a reaction out of the fans other than CM Punk chants. That's not what he's saying though. Since she's come back, all she's gotten are CM PUNK chants for "smart" fans who think they're being hilarious. It's no fault of her own, it's just people being weiners. Anyhoo, I've said it in the past, but they needed to give her more buildup. Just having her turn up and being like "OH MY GOD IT'S PAIGE FROM NXT GUYS LOOK IT'S PAIGE" and win the title was daft. Especially when NXT doesn't air in the US, so the majority of casual fans are just gonna be like "Who's this pale bird?"

To be serious: 1. debuting her and having her in the title out of the blue with no build and no establishing her character 2. not letting her get any offense in for all but the last few seconds of most of her matches 3. stripping away most of the elements that made her cool in NXT 4. AJ being out recovering, denying us the dreamed of title feud 5. booking her matches the way they book ALL The divas matches: as give minute pee breaks

Maybe Naomi, probably no one. But AJ has gotten ten times the push of any other woman working for the company. She should be way more popular than she is, but she is not.

You'd probably have to go back to Michelle McCool to get someone remotely close, and she wasn't bookending RAW and putting World Champions through tables.

AJ has banged every one in the office. It's the only explanation for her entire run. She pulled a Trish Stratus. I don't know which half of this confuses the shit out of me more.

No mic time or proper introduction to her character. Ok so they showed a few video packages but the way she came in was as if Xavier Woods had debuted a won the IC title on his first night. It's almost like when Santino won the IC title straight away and was this generic regular guy that nobody gave a damn about. The only difference is she is a good worker and looks sexy.

Plus, most of the attention during Paige's title reign was focused on her opponents. Alicia Fox's temper tantrums took up more time than the actual matches that proceeded them. Paige's strong suit is her wrestling ability, but she was put into matches where almost none of that shined. No matches with any of the other divas that could actually wrestle, such as Natalya or Emma. Sure she had a few matches with Naomi, but Naomi is still really green at this point.

Who was she? What was her character? Why is an audience supposed to care if she's champ?
Failure to book her in a way to engender any sort of investment at all guaranteed no one would have any.

That illustrates the worst oversight that they made in this. If they had just brought her on and let her wrestle and let that be it, she might have gotten over in the few months she was champion. Instead, they pretended like she was the best thing since sliced bread and everyone needed to know who she was...with no explanation whatsoever. People hate when they're supposed to like something for no reason. Imagine if Roman Reigns' push came out of nowhere a day after he debuted. Conway pops galore.

Giving her the title on Day 1. If they absolutely, positively HAD to do that, why not give them 10 minutes to put on a decent match to show off what Paige can do and at least the non-NXT crowd will sit back and think she can at least wrestle.
It actually makes me wonder....
*Conspiracy Thoery Time*
With Paige's glowing support from both HHH and Steph, maybe someone is trying to sabotage them both by ruining one of their projects. Seriously, why else would WWE have Alicia Fox, out of no- where, lose her mind on the crowds around the same time that they crowned a new champ and take away some of the spotlight, attention and TV time that should have been spent on Paige? Since when has WWE concentrated so much effort to a non-contender Diva?
It could have been much better for Paige.
