I won't go into full details, because I've done in multiple times and so have others, but ME3.... just.... ME3...

It was all Nintendo and Yoshio Sakamoto. Team Ninja had zilch involvement with that game's narrative. Team Ninja's an attractive scapegoat, but Other M's debacle is consistent with what Sakamoto's done with the storytelling and story in both Fusion and the Metroid manga. Just making sure. I have yet to play Fusion or Other M, or read the manga.

Tomb Raider. Lara Croft has had about as many origin stories as there are stars in the sky. I don't care what your iteration of it is. JUST GET TO THE TOMB RAIDING. And maybe make her look like the character that was around for like, 15 years?
Mass Effect. It was originally supposed to be about a potential dark energy-induced collapse of the entire universe. Instead, we got...that.

Castelvania Lords of Shadow did it to me in it's own damned game...
The story it told was simple redemption storyline that while not groundbreaking was at least told competently... and then they completely throw it all away in the post credit scenes...

Although minor, it still kinda irks me a little how they changed Mario from being a plumber from Brooklyn to being born in the mushroom kingdom.

Storylines where a character gets killed but they make up some stupid theory to bring them back.
Mortal Kombat is very guilty of this, they kill of Liu Kang in Deadly Alliance, but it's ok, his back in deception as a Zombie

Was that idea ever acknowledged in the Japanese versions of the games though? I thought that it was just an invention of the American media, like how in the cartoon and movie of Street Fighter Guile was the main character instead of Ryu.

The fact that they rebooted Mortal Kombat and then decided to have the next game take place like 25 years in the future makes me so angry. Why would they go out of their way to make so many little changes to the way events happened if they weren't even going to elaborate on them later?

From what I remember the original Super Mario Brothers book didn't mention Brooklyn or him being a plumber. (Granted the plumber thing probably came from Mario Bros. ... but in Donkey Kong he was referred to as a carpenter so shutup )

That shouldn't be that surprising.

Also, remember before Street Fighter 4 came out, it acknowledged Gouken is dead, killed by His brother Akuma.
Oh wait no he isn't dead, he was just sleeping.
Come on now!

Hey, if HMark can mention SatAM despite that not being the "original"(and I use the term loosely) Japanese story than Mario and Brooklyn may as well be fair game...

Mario is from Brooklyn. I can't be convinced otherwise. Unless you want to tell me he lived in Brooklyn for most of his life or something. I could buy that. At the very least, he's from Italy.
If he's never been to Italy or Brooklyn, then nothing makes sense. Worst of all, it trivializes Mario is Missing. Shameful.

Castlevania Judgement. The character storylines particularly Eric, Maria and Sypha. And I hated how each of their drives to fight were petty.

Mario was originally going to have a more stereotypical Brooklyn accent, but Nintendo thought it was too scary for the kids so the VA made it more lighthearted and stereotypically Italian.

Hey, if HMark can mention SatAM despite that not being the "original"(and I use the term loosely) Japanese story than Mario and Brooklyn may as well be fair game... I was actually thinking about Mario in relation to this topic before. The way Nintendo's handled Mario, by and large, works best for me; each Mario game is basically standalone, so if in the near future they decided to make a game where Mario starts out in some sort of version of Brooklyn or whatever, would anybody really bat an eye? Probably not, since it's not like there's this long, spanning arc of lore to the Mario series. Still, I hear you; I grew up with Captain Lou Albano as Mario, and as somebody who grew up near NYC I liked that the Mario Bros. were "local", so to speak. Back in the day when they provided very little context or story for the games, it worked just fine for Nintendo of America to present them that way. I could probably think of Zelda the same way, to a degree; since every couple of games sort of "resets" the timeline, it's hard to get upset about most changes that occur over time.

Why would they go out of their way to make so many little changes to the way events happened if they weren't even going to elaborate on them later? Wasn't it that they were instead going to tell the story so that it'd end twenty-five years after the last game? Telling the story as it progresses over the time period? Or did I hear/read wrong?

Might have heard that wrong. MKX straight up takes place 25 years after the last one. That being how Sonya and Cage's daughter is in the game.
