Wasn't it that they were instead going to tell the story so that it'd end twenty-five years after the last game? Telling the story as it progresses over the time period? Or did I hear/read wrong? Might have heard that wrong. MKX straight up takes place 25 years after the last one. That being how Sonya and Cage's daughter is in the game. From Wikipedia. "At E3 2014, it was confirmed that the story would begin at the end of the previous game and then eventually transition to twenty-five years into the future, placing emphasis on aged veterans, new characters and the next-generation offspring of the previous fighters."

Wait... so the entire 25 years takes place in one game? Is that how I'm supposed to read that?

Dragon Age II. In the Add On game for Dragon Age Origins you meet a mage named Anders and a possessed guy named Justice. Now, in every single ending I ever got...and I'm 99% sure I got them all, Justice dies at the end. Lots of different things happen to Anders too, but my favorite ending involves him leaving the Grey Wardens for a short time, then returning and gaining the power of an Arch-mage. Over time, the ending states, thousands of Mages flock to the Grey Warden banner and the Chantry gets really scared. In Dragon Age II, they ignore EVERYTHING. Somehow Justice doesn't die and instead bonds itself permanently to Anders. Because "his personality affects the host" Anders goes from the very likable maverick mage in Awakening to this zealot asshole that despises the chantry and the Templars...who's job is to basically keep the mages from being possessed by demons and running ape-shit on the world. While this job could be done FAR better, and the Chantry and Templars aren't innocent...neither are the mages. Oh, but DAII Anders won't hear any of that and he does all this stuff that...well...lots of things can happen to him, but none of them involve him going back to the Wardens and founding a new "Grey Warden School for Mages" like in the DA Awakening ending. Just complete bullcrap and raping of the character and the happenings of the expanded game. I agree with all of the above, I'll just add a little thing that annoyed quite a few players of Origins. I think both games have been out long enough to not feel the need for spoilers, yes ? It's possible to flat out kill Leliana during the Andrastes Ashes quest. In fact you decapitate her (you have to defile the Ashes if you want the Berzerker unlocked and if she is in your party at the time...). Anyway you meet her again in DA2 and for those people who killed her her response is 'I got better'. Did not go down well with those who had done so.

Nor a good game at all, but I "loved" how Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time decided to have one member of the crew from Honor Among Thieves turn completely evil purely out of jealousy was very lazy writing, but since it followed in the traditional of different game studios screwing up franchises they didn't create, I'm not surprised.
I also have to agree with Kingdom Hearts and Metroid. Samus has had it rough, and if it wasn't for Retro, she might be forgotten due to an idiot calling the shots.
And also Saints Row.

Huh, no mention of World of Warcraft. Well, I can give an opinion from an outsider who loved Warcraft, especially Warcraft 3. In theory, World of Warcraft totally invalidates the main series in ridiculous ways. Granted, not having played World of Warcraft, I don't know if this is true. I just get the feeling.

Am I the only one who thinks the Kingdom Hearts storyline has gone way out of proportion? nope. It started bugging the shit out of me at KH2 I never could get over how weird it is that Heartless are actually basically the hearts of people, torn out, while Nobodies have bodies, but have no hearts. Wat.

Am I the only one who thinks the Kingdom Hearts storyline has gone way out of proportion? Nope. I've only played up till KHII and seeing how intertwined it is across multiple consoles and how superfluous the story has become, I will not be coming back. Also the whole Nanomachines Son crap in Metal Gear Solid 4.
