We were guessing on whether Lana would actually use The Malaysian Airlines Fiasco, many of us said the WWE wouldn't go that road... but they did and she did... she used it and went even further with it.
It's apparent WWE has completely embraced this Pro-Russian Gimmick no matter what happens in actual Russia... I'm just imagining that the Backlash they will get from it may not exactly be good.
Though I am glad that it hasn't derailed Rusev yet like a similar event that happened to Hassan
But what do you think? Do you think this will be good for Rusev/Lana, or is it eventually going to catch up to them and ruin them?
I know people already didn't like Lana/Rusev, so I'm curious to see where people stand after that especially.

They didn't really harped on it though. Just a glancing mention and then the regular Lana promo stuff.

The thing to remember about the Hassan situation is that UPN forced their hand. If they didn't complain, things would have played out normally for him.
The moment someone important complains about Lana and Rusev, that's when the plug gets pulled.

So... Is the new board meme?

I like Lana, I like Rusev. I thought that promo was dumb. It wasn't that I took offense to it necessarily, nor is it that I think that WWE can't use current events in entertainment; it was it just seemed unnecessary.
The feud already had juice based on Monday night, you didn't need that.
Then the result, designed to prolong the feud or not, just deflated the crowd.

Based on tonight, neither. As this board has shown me, most don't pay attention to world events so they'll get no backlash from the fans, leaving only the media and they'll just push the "entertainment" card if any of them bitch. So basically status quo, here we stay.
Now if they get more tasteless, I can see it being a problem.

Agreed, it's not like I took offense either, I was just surprised she used it.
Rusev is a good wrestler, and I get the finish though. Swagger wasn't pinned, and Rusev looked hurt. Battleground has always been a setup Pay Per View, and we'll get more build to this feud for Summerslam. Hopefully, the crowd stays hot for it though.

I still say that someone kicks Rusev's ass tomorrow and he disappears for a few weeks.
The longer that the E runs with it the sooner someone complains, and the sooner someone complains Rusev and Lana take the heat even though they're just doing what the E tells them to do.

All I know is she's terrible.
"war mongoling" and "demolcracy" was funny. Just throw an L in with that awful accent.
"You're president is a wuss". f***ing come on. Just mock the sports team and call it a day.

The moment someone important complains about Lana and Rusev, that's when the plug gets pulled. THATS what I'm afraid of, and that's really why I was afraid of them even mentioning it.
We live in a word with sensitive media these days, and though I found it commendable to try and actually use that in their gimmick, if someone big enough complains, it could ruin them and the whole Gimmick. That's why running a Gimmick like this in 2014's like walking on Eggshells. Hope it works out for the best though.

After watching Rocky IV earlier today on AMC, I want the Rusev-Lana angle to end like that movie did lol.

Well Vince recently lost a shitload of money, he definitely needs more subscribers, in the near future people are going to use the atrocity as inspiration to produce movies and books amongst other things why can't the wwe use it? Isn't hoping that the fictional character of Rusev gets his comeuppance the same as watching a movie?

Lana is doing her job as requested, I just think she's bad at it.

The reason the non-American members of this forum were not upset is that the US military has killed civilians in the past, and the WWE continued to do a pro war/pro America stuff. They have even ran adds for the military.
That's as political as I will get.
Also, she is portraying a fictional character. Other TV shows play off of current events too.

I just don't know where they are going now. He's beaten Swagger by count-out, but Swagger was still out of it enough that Rusev was able to crush him. However, Swagger definitively took him to his limits. And in terms of kayfabe, that is Jack Swagger, who hasn't beaten anyone meaningful in years.
So who is America's next great hope? Can't be Cena, he'll be coupled with Brock.
It needs to be an American, a face, a big enough and strong enough guy to be a realistic threat to him.
Reigns? Could they feed him to Reigns instead of feeding him to Cena?
The match would be limited and spotty, but heh.

I know it is unlikely, but I would go nuts if Angle made his return to WWE and took out Rusev.

She alluded to it at the beginning, referring to it as "recent current events." Then she pivoted to her usual shtick. To me, it sounded like they felt they had to allude to it, but say very little about it and then just go to her usual things.

If it's to build to a payoff, they can't push it far enough. BUT - like anything else, there has to *be* a payoff, and it has to be done right. They can't HHH/Booker T this. For starters, an angle like this is hindered terribly by the monthly PPV system. This match was hot-shotted like nobody's business. If you make people pay to watch the buildup, of course they'll feel ripped off. The correct call would have been to not book this match yet. Have Swagger campaigning to get his hands on Rusev, and make Rusev an even bigger villain, but do it separately. Keep them apart until Summerslam. Have the face win decisively, but let Rusev throw a tantrum and come back angrier than ever to get his heat back. It writes itself, but now we just get to sit back and watch how WWE blows this at every turn.
