Eh, just more cheap heat from a gimmick built on it.
But just because I'm not offended, doesn't mean other people are wrong to be.

It may be incredibly insensitive, but I just do not care. If heels can't be insensitive and offensive, then there's not really much they can do except the old tired "arrogant jock" routine that we see over and over and over again. People say this all the time and it just does not make any sense at all. I've seen plenty of movies and TV shows and books where bad guy characters were neither offensive nor arrogant jocks; it's obviously untrue and it's just bewildering why it's said so much.

I'm seeing a lot more articles on it, I honestly hope the negative backlash becomes so immense they're forced to end this Rusev push.
So bored with his character.

It's just too much. It makes WWE comes off desperate. "Wait, real people died in a plane crash? REFERENCE IT ON OUR NEXT SHOW!!!" Like, f***ing really? There's a million things you could say to get across the same "boo America, yay Russia!" sentiment. It'd be one thing if it was just to get a ton of heat on Rusev so Swagger could get his Big Damn Hero moment by tapping him out but then he lost.
It was tasteless for the sake of being tasteless. That's my issue with it. Get the f*** out of the 1980's, wrestling. Please.

All I know is she's terrible. "war mongoling" and "demolcracy" was funny. Just throw an L in with that awful accent. "You're president is a wuss". f***ing come on. Just mock the sports team and call it a day. "Your Lays play in a doomp!" That's what she should've done.

This is the kind of stuff that heels did 40 years ago that made fans want to try and stab them. I'm all for it. Yeah, it's offensive and kinda shitty, but we're not supposed to like the bad people. And I much enjoy the idea that WWE shouldn't and isn't responsible for what the bad people say on their programs. That's how I think it should be. Even if it's not.

Listening to it I just went "oh she went there". Then it was back to standard Rocky and Bullwinkle evil Russian crap.
She didn't drag on about it, was kinda like the opposite of the Mick Foley "cheap pop" just to get some "cheap heat" from some of the audience.
If it keeps going on and on and becomes one of her main talking points, then yeah I could imagine that "cheap heat" turns into real heat and ends up squashing what has surprisingly been a nice little feud with Swagger. I'll go on to say that this has been one of the more entertaining mid card feuds WWE has built up in a good while.

WWE has two kinds of heat right now - cheap heat, and heat from purposely not giving the fans what they want and getting them angry at the company, thus making them boo.

My problem isn't that they should have done it, but rather that it's an element of this industry that still lives on, where foreigners are mostly presented as stodgy when they are heels (and when they are babyfaces, they just want to dance). It often is done in lieu of character development and can undermine the duo themselves.
And considering that Rusev's future role will eventually be the 700th monster Hulk Cena overcomes the odds against to the excitement of little kids, the Fruit Loop Troupe, and Anti-IWC Guy, it is a waste of a storyline to comment this kind of incident on.

I think it's in poor taste to make any reference to the Daily Mail.

Based on tonight, neither. As this board has shown me, most don't pay attention to world events so they'll get no backlash from the fans, leaving only the media and they'll just push the "entertainment" card if any of them bitch. So basically status quo, here we stay. Now if they get more tasteless, I can see it being a problem. You can't really say that about the users on the board. People are aware and we watch wrestling or do other menial things to escape the depressing cruel world. I know very well of what's going on but it's petty to be mad at a wrestling show about real world events being discussed. The Lana/Rusev/Putin shit has been going on several months now and in time maybe 5 people actually picked up on the ties to the situation in the Ukraine and the other factors that have had tensions with Russia at one the worst points since the Cold War ended. The vast majority of people on here were complaining about WWE going back to the Cold War and stoking feeling based on something decades old and that had no relevance in today's world until this week and even then I saw it having to be explained several times despite multiple threads on it across two boards here. That is not escapism, it is ignorance of current events.

I've voiced my displeasure about the Rusev angle before so I'm just going to say that I found this f***ing disgusting and leave it at that.

I'm still only offended because it's so pathetic. "Your president is a wuss." What a cheap heat bullshit thing to say.
After she called America war mongerers. What a wuss. Terrible writing. I'm not even going to blame Lana anymore. Whom ever writes her stuff must have never taken a writing class after junior high.

No, if it was politics, people would be wanting to talk about like they are right now, not spending months complaining about Cold War paranoia being used to get heat for a heel. Shit they even used Edward Snowden and people had no clue who it was or why he was being used. On top of that... Pointing out how WWE (entertainment) is using Putin (current political topic) to get heat are allowed with in reason.

I'm still only offended because it's so pathetic. "Your president is a wuss." What a cheap heat bullshit thing to say. That line just didn't make any sense to me at all. I almost wanted Lana to explain exactly why she believed that because it was just such a random thing to say.

There was a series of promos 2, maybe 3 weeks ago (that lasted probably week and half, 2 weeks) where they laid all that out and have been pushing that since then. Talking up Putin and showing all the footage of him riding animals, hunting and doing all the manly man crap while they showed footage of Obama working out with small 5, 10lbs weights. So just touching on stuff they've already done and setting up Zeb from last Monday talking about how we may not like the person in office but we respect the office of the President.
