It was a bad idea, anyway. Using the Sinister Six as the threat in a Spider-Man movie is a good idea. Using them as the protagonists is a stupid, stupid idea.

I still think if they turned it into Superior Foes with the B and C-list criminals being the villain protaganists and Spider-Man being the antagonist, it'd be something pretty cool we haven't seen before in a superhero movie. Problem is absolutely nobody is really on-hand to write something like that and have it be good.

Honestly characters like this would work for the TV shows that Marvel is doing for Netflix. Realistically there should, in my opinion, just be 2 Marvel franchises in the film universe...Avengers and the Galactic Characters. All of their movies should be for creating characters and stories for the players in those 2 universes.
Everything else should be related to the TV screen. I think a live action TV series for Spider Man would do gangbusters on a network if it was developed in house.
This way if a character was going to be taken off the avengers you could have an origin movie for say Black Panther (taking this from other thread) taking Caps spot and keep the main franchise going forward.

I wouldn't have minded checking it out. I'm not too upset about it not getting done, though. I agree that it probably would work better as a show.

Sony are haemorrhaging money. They should do a distribution deal and hand creative rights back for a slice of cash in a less risky way (ala Universal with Hulk).
Fox should do the same with F4, only X-Men makes them money and this new F4 film just sounds awful.
Granted, I'm no Hollywood big shot, but it just seems a no brainer to give creative control away for the sake of guaranteed cash.....

The flow of the spin-off movie news earlier this year was rampant; but it seems it was all based on ASM2's expected dominant performance this summer. With that performance rather lackluster (X-Men beat it, I think GOTG will too)
But if the Sinister Six movie is cancelled, then that's the crux of those spin-offs gone, and the current direction of the Spidey franchise is done.
Perhaps, if the rumor mongers are right, they'll work a deal with Disney/Marvel for something: from what I've heard, it would add Spidey to the Avengers, and presumably then the boost from that will help them continue the series).

So my wait for a Mysterio film continues ... on the plus side this means a classic comic book lego version of the Illusion Master is more likely to come along sooner.

Sony should get out before the comic book movie bubble busts, I believe it is coming.

One good thing about Sony having the Spider-Man rights...if Disney did, they would make a S6 movie, AND revise it so they were the real heroes.
/Maleficent irradiated the spider and killed Uncle Ben, but just because she was helping Peter Parker become a real hero.

There's actually been alot of rumours that just that may happen with ASM2 under performing. Marvel gets control of Spidey back for a hefty price and Sony gets a nice cut of any Spidey movies going forward. That way they aren't risking anything anymore, and still seeing some of the benefits of the Spider-Man series

It definitely won't be the CW because of DC's presence on the network as well as the same parent corporation.

Never saw the Amazing Spider-man movies, (for one AM 2's trailers made it look absolutely terrible). But Sony is hemorrhaging money so I could see them selling the rights back for guaranteed cash now.
But I'll be honest as much as I love Spider-man... (The X-men too but that has a less of a chance of happening) but I don't really want them showing up in the Avengers.

Yeah don't go all Bendis on us and try to make the Avengers into the Justice League.

Miles Morales Spider-Man, but let's not get off topic.I'd only accept the X-Men if the MCU actually dealt the with implications of a bunch of superpowered beings the world doesn't trust, not like the comics with how the X-Men are quarantined off into their own bubble while their existence doesn't hold much sway over the settings of anyone else....despite them all sharing the same setting and continuity.

It's kind of the problem inherent with sticking them in a shared universe though. Since, it doesn't make any sense they would trust Thor to throw lightning around but don't trust Storm to do the same thing.
