Maybe the Spider-Man movies should be fun again.

Honestly put a Spider-Man show on either the CW or NBC and you would be golden It would almost certainly be ABC, as Disney owns the station and they already show Agents of SHIELD. It definitely won't be the CW because of DC's presence on the network as well as the same parent corporation. Spider-Man's film rights are owned by another company though

Maybe the Spider-Man movies should be fun again. All opinion, though, given that I thought the Amazing films were the best yet, and a lot more fun than the Raimi ones (and that's coming from a Raimi fan). The only thing the old films had over these were random Bruce Campbell cameos.

The only thing the old films had over these were random Bruce Campbell cameos. Garfield's Parker is an insufferable nerd. Macguire's Parker was at least a fun light-hearted nerd. The first Amazing film basically has Garfield responsible for every since bad thing that happens, and makes him have to clean up his own mess. Too needlessly dark. I want to shove Garfield's Parker into the lockers.

Spider-Man's film rights are owned by another company though Only the film rights, though. Disney/Marvel has an Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon currently running on Disney XD that uses members of the Marvel Universe (including the X-Men) and SHIELD. It's not part of the MCU, but even Phil Coulson (voiced by Clark Gregg even) has a role in the show.

What even made Sony so confident about The Amazing Spider-Man 2 to plan out these spin-offs in advance? I haven't seen the movie so maybe it's a different experience, but the trailers didn't look that good.

What even made Sony so confident about The Amazing Spider-Man 2 to plan out these spin-offs in advance? I haven't seen the movie so maybe it's a different experience, but the trailers didn't look that good. Because TASM1 was incredibly successful, I think well past Sony's expectations, and they expected more of the same from TASM2. "Sequel to a blockbuster movie featuring an incredibly popular IP and hot actors" is usually a safe bet. And TASM2 has done well, doing about $700 million in box office. But it's just down from the first movie which did over $750 million. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}I think TASM2 would've done better if they diverged from comic mythos and actually kept Gwen alive. I get that they want to get MJ into the mix and also wanted to have that tragic moment, but a BIG draw of the first movie was Andrew Garfield's and Emma Stone's chemistry both on and off-screen. They basically cut Emma Stone out of any future TASM films unless Gwen comes back via retcon, flashback, or Jedi Ghost. That's not good when Emma Stone is one of the most popular actresses around these days. Of course, if Emma just went to her red hair and played MJ I doubt many people would complain. I could see her playing an incredible Mary Jane Watson.

Sony should get out before the comic book movie bubble busts, I believe it is coming. I agree that studios are going to get a little pickier now that they realize that not every comic book= huge summer blockbuster, but I think comic book movies and tv shows are here to stay. These movies are essentially the new comics. Today's kids and teens watch these and follow the continuity the same way they did the actual comics when I was a kid. I think comics will continue to exist, but I think we are moving into a world eventually where most comics are creator-owned (as that is really the only comics genre seeing any major growth sales-wise) and DC and Marvel stuff is just sort of a supplimental thing like Star Wars comics. I'm not necessarily saying this is how I want things to be, it's just my prediction based on the trends we are seeing in the comics world. As for the Sinister Six movie being cancelled, good. I want Sony to have every reason possible to have to sell the Spidey movie rights back to Marvel where he belongs.

That's a really long time between movies, but since they're building up the Sinister Six that's the way they want it.

More than that, I think, they know that TASM3 will likely do even worse at the boxoffice given recent stalling momentum and they're trying an outside-the-box hail mary on this. Hoping that the S6 movie may grab some more interest and help to boost that sequel.

I still maintain that people care about Spider-man but don't really give a damn about Peter Parker. The movies concentrate on Peter Parker and not on Spider-man which makes no sense to me what so ever.
Most of the best Spider-man stories are about Spider-man primarily (Kraven's Last Hunt, Maximum Carnage, The Master Planner, The Hobgoblin Saga, Nothing Can Stop the Juggernaut, the Sinister Six pretty much every Mysterio story.) Sure Aunt May and Gwen/Mary Jane are about but they are not key to the story, I'd argue that J Jonah Jameson is more important to any spider-man story than those three put together.
The only stories that care about Parker primarily over Spider-man usually feature The Osbornes (Any Norman Osbourne tale, The clone saga, Harry is on drugs.) and I am sick of them now and was never a fan of them in the first place. I'd rather see Spider-man vs Rhino for 90 minutes.
But I'm getting off track. Spider-man films must be about Spider-man heck one of my favorite stories is Spider-man and Daredevil dealing with the Masked Marauder and his goons who are trying to steal an expensive car engine and Peter Parker appears in that story a grand total of zero times.
